According to GM’s recently-updated vehicle order guides, the Chevrolet Caprice PPV (Police Patrol Vehicle) will not receive any updates or changes for the 2016 model year.
For the first six months of 2015, sales of the rear-drive, Zeta-platformed vehicle slid 53 percent to 803 units.
Based on the Aussie-market Holden Caprice and available for purchase only to police squads across the United States, GM presents the Caprice PPV as a better and more capable alternative to front-drive vehicles such as Ford’s Police Interceptor Sedan (Ford Taurus) as well as its own (last-generation) Chevy Impala PPV. For 2016, the Caprice PPV continues to offer the standard 3.6L V6 LFX and optional 6.0L V8 L77 engines mated to GM’s 6-speed 6L80 MX0 automatic transmission.
The Caprice PPV received two changes for the 2015 model year — the additional of a rear-view camera as well as the deletion of one exterior color.

My town now has several Tahoe based Police vehicles. Haven’t really seen any kind of sedan now that I think of it. Heard one of the Tahoes take off the other day, what an exhaust note. One Councilman mentioned the officers don’t fit in the cars anymore! Too many donuts?
Police Tahoes are slower than slime and ALL of our Caprices have recurring loud airbag fault, and tire pressure fault warning chimes that are annoying as hell.
The Police Sedan is a thing of the past because of all the Federally mandated Homeland Security equipment Police are now required to carry in their front line vehicles. The sedans don’t have the cargo space nor the GVW to carry what is required now. That’s why the Ford Police Interceptor Utility has 65% of the North American Police market. It has nothing to do with officer size, as a matter of fact today’s officer has to pass significantly more difficult physical testing to get hired and maintain employment. Likely more than what you had to do to get hired at McDonalds.
Since the Cruze and the Malibu are moving up in size maybe the Impala can move up to the Caprice spot in rear wheel drive form, spread the wealth with the new platform shared between Cadillacs and Camaro. I am sure Buick would also like a rear wheel drive car.
It might be a dream, but I hope the Impala and the SS will someday be replaced by a RWD Omega based (CT6 etc) Impala.. although I’m sure LWB Alpha would do. If that was the base, I can only Imagine what the Impala SS could be.. LT4? LT1 would be great.
Agree. It would be nice to see a mainstream RWD in the Chevy line up besides the “performance” SS model. I’ve often wondered how it would be to find a 2nd hand PPV that wasn’t all wore out already considering what it was used for.
Yo, Reality Checker, if that McDonalds comment was for me, the quote from the Councilman was “fact”. I have all the respect in the world for the Officers in my town! The Councilman hinted about the donuts.
I’d love a big RWD Chevy Caprice, and I’m not even a police officer. Looks a lot better than the Impala, the Caprice is what I would like in a new car.
I agree. I actually own one. It’s a 2011 with 38,000 miles on it when I bought it. A real dream to drive. and FAST!
