Camouflaged Performance-Oriented Chevrolet Camaro Spotted

Detroit and its surrounding areas are a haven for domestic vehicles’ spy shots. Sometimes, they’re merely nothing or, a vehicle public eyes have already seen. But, this grainy photo provided by Mind Over Motor looks to be some sort of high-performance variant of the recently revealed 2016 Chevrolet Camaro.
First of all, the car is question is clearly a Camaro mule of sorts. There’s do denying the shape and silhouette of the car. Secondly, what makes us think this really is a hopped-up performance Camaro, are those larger, meatier tires. Even the rear of the car takes a few slightly different cues from other Camaro prototype cars.
It very well could be the next Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, but, we won’t pin that down as there are plenty of variants the 2016 Camaro could see in its lifetime.
We had provided a rendering of what the next (2018?) Camaro ZL1 could look like, and specs to make for a true Hellcat challenger. The LT4 6.2-liter supercharged V8 would be a nice fit for the next Camaro ZL1, following in big-brother Corvette’s shoes in offering the LT1 and LT4 engines.
For now, though, all we have is this one photo, and a lot we could speculate about what it could be for some time. Instead, let us know what you think it may be down below in the comments section.
Do any of us think it’ll have more power than a Hellcat? It could probably beat one because of the obvious weight difference, but I don’t think Chevrolet is ever gonna let the Camaro have more power than the Corvette unless there’s a new Corvette shortly afterward.
This is where Chevy is winning the game they are working on the complete package and not just slapping a big engine into an old chassis with only a few updates. This new car will go, stop and turn circles around a Hellcat once it is done.
You can slap all the power in the world into a car but if it can not use it was use is it other than to kill expensive tires in smoke.
The trick to real performance is get the weight down, get the suspension and brakes right and add power.
Just to note GM had tested the ZR1 engine to 725 HP and it passed all the warranty test with flying colors. Word is the new LT engine has had a version testing to 1,000 HP with no issues but they could not get the car it was in to hook up. They are only going to give it enough power that it can use. Anything more is just an advertising gimmick.
Hoffa the C8 Vette is going to leave a lot of room for the Camaro to work in for more power. There is no worry there. Odds are the C8 will be out next year before the new Camaro arrives.
And I agree with you, I don’t see it out by next year but I definitely think we’ll at least have one on the way by 2018.
I have a zl1 and would like a factory 100hp more !
It’s still fun to drive though…..
100 HO would be easy to do. The key is making sure the car can use all of it or are you going to be hindered by the engine management.
Most people do not understand in many parts of the engine profile of many of the new cars they never get te full power out of the engine as it is dialed back.
Some cases to get the power to the ground other cases to keep the tranny alive. Most often at shift points and you can not believe how much it can slow a car down. The GXP GP was like that.
The guys who took off the management often lost a tranny in time.
Hoping this time around Chevrolet will do a 1LE with more power than a stock SS. The 1LE is the best of both worlds and will attract more people to get one. I think the 1LE should have about 515hp 500lbs of torque and not the 455hp 455lbs of torque the LT1 puts out. If it were to have a few more ponies and lbs ft of torque with better brakes wider tires and better cooling and air flow, this is where most people would opt to go for for a few thousand more than a SS. Of course it will handle better than a SS..but then they could improve from what they are able to do with that 1LE platform and go further and behind to start on the zl1 or even the z28. The 1LE should be far better than the SS. I know that’s what I would like to see with the new 1LE.
