Uniquely Colored 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 Heads To Mecum Harrisburg

The classic car community will forever be divided into camps, it seems: Those that prefer modified classics, like a resto-mod or rat-rod, and those that prefer a stock, showroom-condition classic.

Fans of the latter will surely find this 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 drool worthy, due in large part to its special order ‘Evening Orchid’ exterior paint job, a rare color that’s sure to drive up the bids when it heads to the Mecum Harrisburg auction July 30-August 1.

Those after a certifiable example will also appreciate it signed affidavits from the original owner and dealer on the Evening Orchid paint, original sales receipt, dealer invoice and NCRS shipping data report.

Pop its pinkish-red hood and you’ll find the stock 302 cubic-inch (4.9-liter) 302 horsepower V8 engine and original drivetrain, complete with M21 4-speed transmission. Take a stroll around back and you’ll find a BV code 4.10 Positraction rear end and a body-color D80 rear lip spoiler.

Unsurprisingly, the obsessive attention to detail also continues inside the car. Slide into the black leather seats with original seat covers and you’re greeted with a wood wheel, tinted glass, pushbutton AM radio, original two-piece rotors, brake booster and master cylinder and original window trim and door panels.

Search elsewhere and you’ll eventually notice more original pieces like the bumpers, 5 AD code Rally wheels, disc brakes, original two-piece rotors, brake booster and master cylinder and a chambered exhaust out back.

It’s a stunning tribute to what the 1969 Camaro Z28 was like when it rolled off the assembly line 46-years ago, and one that’s sure to fetch top dollar later this month at auction.

A far-too-tall Ontarian who likes to focus on the business end of the auto industry, in part because he's too tall to safely swap cogs in a Corvette Stingray.
