It’s something we don’t think about often. Many assume the car they drive off the dealer lot, with the fresh new car smell, comes put together with pieces from one manufacturer. But that simply is not the case.
Parts and pieces are sourced from hundreds of suppliers through deals with OEMs to put together a car inside a factory. Today, Automotive News has provided a look at how many companies go into one single 2015 Opel Corsa with their nifty infographic you can find at the link above.
From transmission oil pump, to the turbocharger for the 1.4-liter engine, to the exterior mirror cover, there are dozens of big names listed in the infographic provided. It’s a lot to take in, but then you realize all of this goes to one single place, the Zaragoza plant in Spain and Eisenach plant in Germany, and one shiny-new 2015 Opel Corsa is assembled, ready to find a new home.
The assembly line is an incredible thing isn’t it? And to think the basic idea hasn’t changed since Henry Ford.
