2016 Chevrolet Colorado Duramax, 2016 GMC Canyon Duramax Ordering Now Open

Those who were awaiting the arrival of the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado and 2016 GMC Canyon Duramax diesel truck models can now place their orders.

While both trucks are expected to offer class-leading fuel efficiency, those who opt for the Colorado will have the option between LT and Z71 trim levels. Meanwhile, GMC will offer the D-Max on 2016 Canyon SLE and SLT Crew Cab models.

Either XLD28-powered truck would be a fine choice, in our opinion.

  1. Please call me when they put a transmission behind this baby duramax that can handle its 369 lb/ft of torque.

    1. How would you know what the transmission will handle? Do you know the 6L50 hasn’t received a revamp or re tune? You may have a point but there is no reason to criticize when we do t know… I personally will hold off until I read some reviews, however I do know the global model colorado puts out more hp and slightly less torque and seems to hold up to the punishment. Just saying

      1. GM Powertrain publishes the capacities of its products. Horsepower and torque of engines. Maximum engine torque of its transmissions.

That’s how I know. It’s how GM knows. And it’s how you would know if you went to the GM Powertrain webpage.

        1. You’re looking at the 2015 specs. GM has upgraded the torque rating for the 2016 version of the 6L50

        2. You’ll notice on the powertrain data that the max torque is listed as the torque for the most powerful engine mated to it at the time. That’s not the actual capacity of the transmission.

  4. That’s odd! Tomko is right the engine puts out 369lb-ft of torque and the Hydra-Matic 6l50 has a max engine rating of 322lb-ft. Surely there is something we are missing here.

  8. When this article was released last week, I spoke to three GMC dealerships regarding placing a special order, it appears they are correct, the Duramax diesel option is on “constraint” until who knows when…Gezz, more delays….

Don`t try calling the GMC product center either, you will get the run around as they will tell you the same….

    1. I ordered a 2015 Colorado LT with the 3.6L earlier this year and took delivery after 9 weeks. It was a long wait but very well worth it.

    2. So did GM in the previous generation Colorado. The current V6 makes the same power as the V8 Colorado and more than the Dodge’s did.
