Many of us can attest to watching the comedic Bill Murray and his team of Ghostbusters take on the monsters terrorizing 1984 New York City. Their vehicle, a 1959 Cadillac ambulance, would be something that stood out in today’s world. As Road And Track points out, a ’59 Cadillac is pretty much a collector’s item at this point, which is why the director of the new movie, Ghostbusters 3, felt the need to change it.
The name of the vehicle is Ecto-1, and it was portrayed as a hunk-a-junk vehicle in the movie. In order to maintain this image, a modern-day jalopy needed to take its place. Paul Feig, the director of Ghosbuters III, decided on a 1989 Cadillac Brougham. The car has little to no value in the eyes of a collector, and in stock form, isn’t anything special.
We could see this movie car becoming worth something, eventually. Aside from being a famous movie car, it’s got some notable features that make it worthwhile. For instance, an anti-tailgating sticker reads, “Stay back over 500 feet, not responsible for damage,” which could come in very handy the way people drive these days. The Ghostbusters hood ornament is a nice touch too.
