As of recent, California has been aiming to revamp its quite generous plug-in tax rebate. As Gas2Â has pointed out, sometimes you have to get a little creative when garnering support in politics.
That’s why California State Senate Pro-Tem Kevin de León decided to crush a 1984 Ford Ranger in an effort to raise awareness. But he wasn’t to be outdone by former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has thrown his support behind the plug-in tax rebate overhaul.
Currently, it’s argued the program subsidizes the wealthy, and, under de León’s program, families would receive a $1,500 credit for turning in their old, polluting vehicle, then another $3,000 to buy a plug-in car. But wait, that’s before the $2,500 California already offers up on plug-in cars, bringing the grand total to $7,000. And the final hurrah? Add up to $7,500 from the federal government.
In order for the Governator to throw his support behind the program, he decided to destroy a Cadillac for the cause. But, his way is a tad more explosive than de León’s crushing. Check out Schwarzenegger’s message below.

If everyone in America drove an electric car our skies would be full of nothing but power lines.
…and then Arnold drives off in his HUMMER H1,
I love it.
Isn’t he the one that convinced the manufacturer to build a civilian version of the Hummer H1?????
