Ricky Taylor of Wayne Taylor Racing was leading the Prototype class at the Sahlen’s 6 Hours of The Glen this weekend as rain began to descend on the race and pool up on the track. At the same time, he was receiving no shortage of pressure from Chip Ganassi Racing’s Joey Hand in his Ford EcoBoost DP, making things that much harder on the older Taylor brother.
As Ricky exited the final turn at Watkins Glen, he put his rear tires on the slippery curb and went spinning across the track. The nose of his C7 Corvette DP hit against and barrier and popped off, however he was able to continue driving. At the same time Hand was attempting to avoid Taylor by taking a tight inside line, which also caused him to spin.
Hand tapped Taylor as he spun, sending the Chevy into the pits, whether that’s where Ricky planned on going or not. Wayne Taylor’s Konica Minolta Corvette DP was retired from the race, while Hand was able to continue racing. Richard Westbrook and Michael Valiante ended up giving Chevy the Prototype win in their VisitFlorida.com DP, with Hand in second and Joao Barbosa and Christian Fittipaldi in third.
Check out Ricky’s wreck in the video below, and be sure to tune back into the TUDOR United Sportscar Championship when they head to Canadian Tire Motorsports Park for the Mobil 1 Sportscar Grand Prix on July 12.
