General Motors’ telematics subsidiary, OnStar, has announced a new service called Theft Alarm Notification.
An enhancement to the existing Stolen Vehicle Assistance suite of services, OnStar Theft Alarm Notification leverages the vehicle’s OnStar connection and delivers a real-time alert either through email, text message, or phone call when the vehicle’s alarm is triggered. As such, it allows customers to remain in contact with their vehicle even when it is out of sight and is highly useful in theft situations, when a fast response and quick awareness are key to giving customers a greater chance to recover stolen property.
Expanding Security Features
Theft Alarm Notification represents an expansion of OnStar’s existing security features — including Remote Ignition Block and Stolen Vehicle Slowdown — that enable OnStar advisors to work with local authorities and use GPS technology to pinpoint the vehicle’s location. In certain models, if the conditions are safe, advisors can send a signal to slow down the vehicle, aiding police officers in its recovery and preventing a potential high-speed chase.
Availability
The Theft Alarm Notification feature will be available to eligible subscribers later this summer with the Security or Guidance package and a compatible vehicle.
Vehicle Compatibility
Most 2014 model year and newer General Motors vehicles are capable of the Theft Alarm Notification service. Those interested in determining whether their vehicle is compatible with Theft Alarm Notification should inquire by speaking with an OnStar advisor.
Stay tuned to a model-by-model compatibility chart.
