General Motors Canada Sales Up 3.85 Percent To 27,462 Units In May 2015

Canadian Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac dealers delivered 27,462 new vehicles in May 2015, an increase of 3.85 percent compared to May 2014.

Chevrolet was the only brand to post a year-over-year sales gain, while Cadillac, Buick, and GMC were down.

“Chevrolet had a very strong month of May with car sales up 14 percent and truck sales up 6 percent versus the year before”, said John Roth, vice president, sales, service and marketing for GM Canada. “Chevrolet Corvette sales were up over 200 percent in May, its best sales month in Canada since 1980 when Billy Joel’s “It’s Still Rock and Roll To Me” was #1 on the Billboard Top 100.”

May 2015 notes (vs. May 2014, except as noted):

  • GM Canada:
    • Chevrolet Colorado and Silverado and GMC Canyon and Sierra lead the industry pickup segment with 10,907 deliveries. GM’s three-truck strategy of mid-size, light duty and heavy duty trucks is resonating in the marketplace; it was designed to provide customers with a full range of options and choices in pickup trucks to suit their individual needs. The approach positioned GM to respond to the continued strong customer demand for pickups in May.
    • GM customers are also now enjoying 4G LTE technology on more than 30 Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac vehicles, the largest deployment in the automotive industry. 4G offers mobile data speeds up to 10 times faster than 3G, allowing GM vehicles to act as Wi-Fi hot spots, allowing customers to connect up to seven different
  • Chevrolet sales increased 9 percent to 16,473 units:
    • Camaro was up 8.9 percent to 596 units
    • Corvette was 208 percent to 450 units
    • Chevrolet pickups were up 26 percent to 5,081 units
    • Colorado accounted for 573 sales
    • Silverado was up 11.5 percent to 4,508 units
    • Equinox was up 2.86 percent to 2,051 units
    • Impala was up 10.4 percent to 307 units
    • Malibu was up 107.1 percent to 1,357 units
    • Spark was up 350 percent to 365 units
    • Tahoe was up 18.4 percent to 199 units
    • Traverse was up 15.9 percent to 378 units
    • All other Chevrolet models posted year-over-year decreases in sales
  • Cadillac sales decreased 0.3 percent, or 4 units, to 1,207 units:
    • Escalade was up 511.5 percent to 159 units
    • Escalade ESV was up 600 percent to 42 units
    • SRX was up 1.75 percent to 524 units
    • XTS was up 4.9 percent to 85 units
    • ATS was down 22 percent to 319 units
    • CTS was down 55.5 percent to 76 units
    • ELR was down 33.3 percent to 2 units
  • Buick sales decreased 18.19 percent, or 349 units, to 1,570 units:
    • Enclave was up 50.8 percent to 365 units
    • Regal was up 11.1 percent to 80 units
    • Buick crossovers (Enclave and Encore) had their best May since 2003 with a 16 percent increase for the month)
    • All other Buick models posted year-over-year decreases in sales
  • GMC sales decreased 0.04 percent, or 3 units, to 8,212 units:
    • Only the Sierra posted a sales gain, increasing 14.8 percent to 5,327 units
    • All other GMC models posted year-over-year decreases in sales
