We all feel the urge to pull a big, billowy donut in the middle of the street every once in a while but luckily our inner-child is strangled into submission by our conscience. Hefty fines and the possibility of losing your license? No, thank you.
Sure, some people get away with it. But others, but a 25 year-old driver of Millersville, Maryland, probably wish that they could take the Doc’s DeLorean up to 88mph and travel back in time. Because penalties.
The driver was piloting a Corvette when he decided to pull a donut and a burnout on Coast Highway on May 16 during the OC Cruisin’ event and police soon put the pieces together and charged him with nearly $1,000 in fines after a video of the tire-smoking action popped up online. OC’s rozzers also used tips from citizens to help identify the driver.
With some crowd-sourced detective work done, the cops charged the driver with numerous offenses including operating a motor vehicle in a manner intended to cause skidding, and operating a motor vehicle in a manner intended to cause excessive noise.
Huntsman was stopped in the area on May 30 for a different traffic violation and that’s when policed slipped him with the citation for his previous highway antics.
The three takeaways here are 1) don’t film super illegal stuff and post it on YouTube because there’s a chance you could get caught, and 2) find a track if you truly feel the urge to melt some rubber. 3) As a petrolhead, excessive skidding and noise violations are like badges of honor– you’d might as well wear them with pride.

Back in the day when I was young. Well let’s just say nobody had a cell phone with a camera.
hmmm, guy at car event shows out for crowd. Police go out of their way to find and charge him for…I guess a bunch of charges aimed more at stymieing crowd approved hooning…?
Either way, $1000 is a small price to pay.
As a fellow hooner and having done more than my fare share of “exhibitions of speed”, I gotta give props where props was due. IF you’re gonna put on a show when leaving an event, this is how you do it.
Sidenote: anyone who knows a thing about actual driving will have noted that –
1. at no time was his car “out of control”
2. he did a brake controlled rolling burnout after the doughnut…as in his foot was always on the brake and the car was in no danger of actually accelerating away while blowing all that lovely smoke…never mind that sound!
That said, noobs – not knowing the nuances of such tricks – will invariably try to mimic this behavior and end up on a curb or into the crowd.
Which is why I just shake my head when the local community and cops crack down on kids playing around in empty parking lots, industrial parks, and any other isolated paved areas. There is literally no way to get good at car control, if you have no where to practice and hoon. They DON’T teach this at the track.
These are skills that used to be learned by most every car nut late at night in a deserted area while hanging with others like minded. It was contained and generally safe, and when things did go wrong it was just a hurt ego and some damaged sheet metal that suffered.
Now, it seems that over half the so called “racers” or “car enthusiast out there can’t drive to save their lives, never mind, control their car in an emergency. Now a days; Burnout? Better call an ambulance. Doughnut? Call a wrecker…
