Chevrolet Corvette C5 Z06 Tears Up Dirt On The Rallycross Course: Video

The Chevrolet Corvette C5 Z06 isn’t mentioned much these days. But more than two decades ago, the last C5 Z06 rolled off the assembly line in Bowling Green, Kentucky. It was the first resurrection of the vaunted Z06 badge since the ‘RPO Z06’ package offered on the 1963 Corvette C2. Since then, two successors, the C6 Z06 and C7 Z06, have ballooned the performance envelope to the point where a new Corvette Stingray could easily leave the 20-year old Z06 in its wake.
No matter, for we’ve found a (brief) clip that’s sure to confuse and delight those faithful to the C5 Z06. We’ve seen plenty of Corvettes doing Autocross duty but this particular SCCA-sanctioned event swaps tarmac for dirt; yes, you’re about to see Z06 slide its away around Rallycross course in Nebraska on stock suspension, no less!
The ’02MY Z06 appears untouched, though its 405-horsepower 5.7L LS6 V8 provides plenty of pep and helps make quick work of the track, spraying waves of dirt and fury in every direction. It looks like huge fun, and we’ve got to pat the ol’ C5 Z06 on the hood for such an admirable performance.
You can catch the action above, plus we also have the extended on-board camera footage from the same run just below.
