The heavy-duty truck segment is an important, and profitable portion of the industry. It also sits as a pedestal to earn bragging rights. If there’s any greater American automotive rivalry than Camaro vs Mustang, it’s Chevy and Ford trucks. And now Ram has become a very formidable player within the segment.
Not surprisingly, Chevrolet and GMC are readying their next punches to the HD truck segment. TFLtruck has spied the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado HD and its 2017 GMC Sierra HD cousin undergoing heavy testing, as the two towed various trailers and utility boxes.
We’ve seen these prototypes before, and they still wear the same unique cut-out gracing the hoods. Those paying attention also spotted large DEF tanks on under the passenger side of the trucks, fueling speculation of a new-generation of turbocharged Duramax diesel engines residing in the prototypes. Ram and Ford currently offer powerplants producing 900 lb-ft of torque, something Chevrolet and GMC undoubtedly want to eclipse.

Would like to see a 1500 diesel option let between a 4.0 to 4.5 litre V6 with around 450-500ft.lbs.
Not everyone looking for a full sized truck need needs 900+ ft.lbs.
Could also see duty in the full sized SUV’S for better fuel economy and higher towing numbers.
Would like to see a new more powerful gasoline engine offered.
Neither Ford nor Ram currently offer 900 ft. lb. of torque. According to their respective websites, Ford is at 860 ft. lb. and Ram is at 865 ft. lb. Neither of these numbers seem to matter in the real world testing though. GM beats both of them every time.
Yes the Duramax usually does win because there is more to an engine that just raw power numbers. You also have to factor in efficiency, smoothness, torque curve, etc.
