2015 Corvette Z06 Engine Reportedly Fails After Just 6 Miles

According to a story shared on CorvetteForum.com, a 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 experienced an engine failure with just 6 miles on the clock. You’re probably wondering how that could be. Well, here’s a firsthand account of what actually happened:

“…the car had 6 miles on it and not even a mile from the dealership [it] started knocking, and died before I could pull over…”

The post was initially public, but the site actually seems to have taken the post down and banned the member who wrote it, believing that it was the work of a troll. Not completely unfair, as we deal with these kinds of things all the time ourselves. And if you would’ve asked us about the probability of the C7 Z06’s 6.2L LT4 V8 failing, we would confidently say “very, very little.”

But according to several comments made after the owner shared his story, it appears that there are at least three instances of C7 Z06 engines failures. We know of at least one other Z06 that had an engine failure, and that was with 891 miles on the clock. Granted, three isn’t a high number, but the Z06 is already a low-volume vehicle to begin with.

So, we’re hoping to hear GM address these failures in the near future, whether with a technical service bulletin, recall, or another type of a customer program.

  1. I have 2,200 miles on mine and purrrrring like a kitten, well like a tiger. If mine goes its from my salesman who decided to go over 120mph when i let him drive it 3 miles back to the deslership, #@&*%÷/#. He had never driven one so being a good guy i let hi abuse mine speed and braking. What an idiot. No i did not think he would do that. I bought the Z06 on a tuesday and could not even sit in it till late friday and when i did i pulled out shifted to 2d went to shift to 3d and sw i was doing 70. I immediatly let off on the gas but a trooper already had me. I believe those troopers were wsiting for that car to pull out because 2 troopers were passed as my salesman did 120. Dont ask me why they didnt pull himvover, i dont know. They were waiting for me thinking ptobably i was the one doing 120 and i got it because i just wasnt used to it yet. I was only allowed in the csr 4 days later and i drove it a total of about 3 miles before taking delivery. DO NOT LET ANYONE BUT A BEST FREIND WHO KNOWS HOW TO DRIVE IN YOUR VETTE,

  2. Ive dealt with two transmission failures. Both 8 speed autos, a Z06 (while racing) the other a Z51 (on its way home).

  3. I’m not a Corvette owner, but I admire them. I’m GM loyal and while they have the engineering, they really need to get the quality on par and fix this if it’s an issue.

How else can they compete against imports if they’re having issues like this? With this kind of money being spent, that car better be flawless.

  4. Each one of the 6.2lt engines going into the corvette is hand built and signed by the person who did it. Also, there is a “black box” that records in 30 seconds loop. It will have all kinds of data on the engine just before the killjoy hit.

  6. 2006 Z06 Purchased new. Recall for roof panel in 2006. Service bulletin in 2007, Wrong differential fluid installed at factory causing posi clutches to chatter. (Service bulletin is not a recall) Therefore I had to pay for fluid change. Now GM sends (Service notices) Not recalls which now they only fix the ones customers complain about Starting out your satisfaction is very important to us blah blah blah (NOT). Car has less than 10000 miles ,no track time, never raced or abused.( I have other cars for that) New service notice is for clutch master cylinder failure which causes clutch to stick to floor WHICH IS A DIRECT RESULT OF CLUTCH FAILURE. I was informed by customer service rep and by regional service manager that this was a maintenance issue and GM does not warranty clutches.I currently own five Chevrolets At which time I have enough service bulletins, service notices and recall notices to play cars with. Time to change brands

  8. The over supercharged engines in these cars are prone to overheatimg which can cause detonation and endless piston and valve problems leading to total destruction. Nothing about the 35,000 plus corvettes each year is hand built including the engines. If you want to see yourself coming and going buy a Corvette and pretend it is a real sports car.
