2015 C7 Corvette Z06 ‘Ring Time Has Officially Been Completed

Weeks ago, eagle-eyed enthusiasts in Germany spotted the 2015 C7 Corvette Z06 entering the colloquial “Green Hell.” From video evidence, it appeared the 2015 Z06 was completing a few hot laps in preparation for an official time around the famed Nürburgring Nordschleife.
According to the latest report from Corvette Blogger, that is exactly the case, and it has been confirmed the 2015 C7 Corvette Z06 has made a successful lap around the ‘Ring with video evidence. That news comes straight from the mouth of lead Corvette engineer, Tadge Juechter. He revealed the news during a regular “Ask Tadge” session on the Corvette Forums to the delight of fans.
Regarding the Nürburgring time, Juechter had this to say specifically:
…it is the quickest car around the track we know how to make. That has been validated by numerous third parties. Last week, we were finally able to confirm the performance of the car on a continuous lap of the Nurburgring. We are putting together the press release and will have the lap time and video out shortly. I can tell you we were more than satisfied with the results.
It appears the third time is a charm indeed, as an official lap time for the 2015 Corvette Z06 was thwarted twice before. Previously, mother nature stepped in to hold the Corvette team back with rain, while the second attempt resulted in a wrecked 2015 Z06 after skidding over fluids from another vehicle.
Is there a benchmark? Surely. The true time to beat is the 7:19.64 set by the 2012 Corvette ZR1, and we think that’s a no-brainer. The true test to ignite the Corvette versus GT-R rivalry will be undercutting Godzilla’s time of 7:08.69.
We’ll know soon enough.
It’ll be very cool to see what the C7Z can do at the ring.
In regards to the GT-R, its ring time is to be discounted as far as a side to side comp with any other stock vehicle. Nissan is well known significantly modifying their cars to get low ring times, and those modifications are not available to the public. http://www.carthrottle.com/post/bad-news-the-gt-r-nismos-astonishing-nurburgring-time-was-a-massive-lie/
Nismo GT-R N-Attack package IS available to customers in the U.S. It is installed by Stillen.
Brochure is available from Stillen with details on the two available packages and pricing.
lol yes, for the price of a second GT-R.
Point is that ring time is a lie in regards to a stock Nismo.
The point was the modifications are available. You stated as a matter of fact they were not based upon an outdated link. That said, I do not agree with Nissan not clarifying the optional (and expensive at $98k) N-Attack car was tested. They should have posted a time for the stock Nismo package car as well. I’ve heard the time for the stock car was in the 7:13 range though I’ve never seen anything official. That time would be more than respectable and would have eliminated the bad press from publishing only the N-Attack.
GM will offer a $325 bumpy track option for the Z07 after the Willow Springs MT test, which I applaud. I prefer factory options to aftermarket. If GM offered a high end track package for the Z06 (better cooling, rear wing, lighter weight, etc) and they tested this on the Ring I would see no problem with it. I think many Corvette enthusiasts would WANT this, based on the posts at the Corvette forum. Nissan has done exactly this, though at extremely Iow volume (N-Attack is only available to Nismo owners).
Isn’t the point to have the car tested you can drive off the lot with and keep the cost down? You may as well go to an aftermarket tuner…it’ll probably be less money and better performance than the official Nissan package.
Also, If the C7Z gets even close to that number (which it may even beat it) it’s a win for GM. And, you can drive off the lot, so to speak, with the same Corvette that’s been tested.
Is the GM officially says that time travel is done. a long time this story is confused. this circuit provides daily ride around in a Corvette.
it helps to talk meaninglessness.
GM says the date and time when it was a race.
give corvette Sabine Schmitz’s let him drive
two liter hot hach. golf gti supersport or goilf r420 come and to 7 min this ring ahhaaaa.
family wagon car
corvette must do UNDER 7 MIN.
But I have a feeling that GM itself is not at all aware of the event, or schedule it.
this ring is very very long long long. family wagon 7.50.00 pretty same like gt-r 7 .15.00 ahhaaa.
Realistic time: 7:16.28
Desired time: 7:05,77
what. old vette do 7.19.64
today is 2015 and new vette. different driver drive +-20 sec ahhaaaa and all others conditions and weather or traffic. 20 sec is nothing. this is very very long ring to you know
under 7 min or nothing. i belive someone drive under 7min new vette ideal condition and good driver
someone vette le manse raching team driver who know this ring like her mother. and all raching team work this record lap time profesionally like raching day
Ring times are meaningless to average person who buys the gtr or vette ,they’ll never be proficient enough drivers to know the differences in the real world. Having said that ,the biggest knock on the gtr from “professionals” has been the detached from the action feeling, But anybody can drive it fast…so for my money give me the car I can let my wife drive without ending up in the ditch or bringing me back shredded tires because her SUV doesn’t accelerate “so violently” when she pushes the throttle. The Vette is beyond the ability of most to drive all out.
ok ahhaaaaa.
The 2015 Corvette Z06/Z07 has Officially completed a timed lap at the Nurburgring!
Quote from Corvette Chief Engineer Taste Juechter…
“[The Z06] is the quickest car around the track we know how to make. That has been validated by numerous third parties. Last week, we were finally able to confirm the performance of the car on a continuous lap of the Nurburgring. We are putting together the press release and will have the lap time and video out shortly. I can tell you we were more than satisfied with the results.”
When asked for a specific time Tadge left media to wonder until the official press release & video is released to the public HOWEVER asked media to speculate somewhere in between 7:06-7:08mins!
The Ring times if done legitimately is a good measure of a cars abilities. The Ring is the worlds test track as most all top producer test there cars there. Note that GM did this carefully as they have with the Camaro and do not post, claim or state anything that can not be backed up with video and data.
Sure you get some cheaters but they are generally exposed and soon after forgotten.
The Cars should be tested as sold and only additions of a fire system, harness and roll bar are included. GM and most other legitimate runs are done with in car video to back up all claims. This is why there is no time for the Camaro with no rain at this point as the fastest run had no video. GM said it went faster but will make no claims till they hit the track again for a full dry lap on video.
This will be the top time for a front engine Corvette as I have noted Tadge and others state they have gone about as far as they can go with the present set up. This should be an open door to the new Mid Engine deal coming soon. Note the Improvements and spending at the Corvette plant post C7 into. It is not just for much for the flower beds.
To be a legitimate contender against Porsche GM needs to set a legitimate lap here as Porsche does. Nissan has played games for years and generally get discounted buy most who review their laps other than the fan boys.
I expect a sub 7:10 lap and a 7:06 is doable with the better tires and the top aero package. The trick here is to add enough down force for the tight part but not so much that it kills the top end of the track. I am sure GM played with this to get the best time.
What Nissan does would be like GM going to Lingenfelter and having a TT V8 done and then taking it for a run.
While the GTR is a fun car it lack heritage and that is something the Japanese do not understand with products. They build a NSX at the time that was a better Ferrari but it was yet still not a Ferrari. They have build better V twin Bikes but yet they are not Harleys. The only car they have with heritage is the Miata as they have killed the others years ago in the RX 7 and 280 Z.
This is a time where engineers can be proud of what they do and these numbers are brag rights of what they accomplished. They must be done properly or you are just wasting your time.
There will be no disappointment with this cars time. I can hardly wait to see the new SS time with the Camaro too.
GT-R is one of the few Japanese cars I would identify WITH “heritage.” The R35 definitely is not the first edition and MT not too long ago had a feature about the original 69-72 Japan only GT-R. Neat car.
Comparing an NSX to a Ferrari is odd because one is a model and the other a brand. Honda has plenty of heritage but obviously not the brand appeal that Ferrari owners are looking for.
Sorry but heritage comes with time. You can not engineer it, style it or buy it. Come back and see me when this car has been around for more than 20 years and retains much the traits that it started out with.
The 280Z and RX7 were just on the cusp of it and were changed or altered to the point they no longer represented what they were or were killed off. The original NSX was close but just never really totally set it’s self apart as it was so well boring. Great car but it has no soul.
As for the NSX it was intended to be the better 308/328 model. It was to be more reliable and better performing. And for the most part it was. It did awaken Ferrari with making better entry level models as the 308 really was not much of a performance car and required major maintenance. That is why today you can buy one cheap with a GM engine installed. For too long they were not worth the price of repair.
As for the GT R from 69-72 few people know or care out side Japan.
If you look at the history of Japanese sports cars few have lasting value globally. The one Toyota GT hold some interest but few others do. Even the Iconic 280 Z still struggles to be of much interest to collectors and it’s price has never taken off as it could or maybe should have.
I have always struggled to understand a country like Japan that treasures traditions in lifestyle but has always failed to never put much soul into their cars. I have always attributed it to the culture and mind set that they have always treated the car strictly as a consumer product and never a image product.
pla pla pla pla. ferrari is ferarri and porsche is porsche and so on. History is important. and if the products are perfect. This is faster than Honda does not make him even better. Porsche and Ferrari is history. Perfect and very fast. He may be slower than the Honda, however, is still better than honda or something else. or new corvette. new corvette can be fast and very good but he’s not as good as a Porsche.Due to the difference in the price can not be better. corvette has a great history.and the corvette can get better than porche or ferrari. It would be very hard work, of course. However, it is possible
So, how long does it take to write a press release?
I love Corvettes…
Data on specs seems to vary from one source to the other. However, there seems to be a consensus on the fact that the 2015 Corvette C7 Z06 is indeed more powerful than the C6-ZR1 who set a 7:19 on Nurburgring (650hp vs. 638hp). But it is also heavier (3524lbs. vs 3333lbs.). After doing arithmetic, it happens that the power to weight ratio is still bigger in the ZR1 (421hp/tonne vs. 405hp/tonne approx.). That been said, and assuming drivers with the same expertise, no one should expect the new ‘Vette to do better than the ZR1 around the ‘Ring i.e. 7:19. In other words, despite being more powerful, the Z06 will need more time to break as well as more time to come back up to speed while cornering, simply because it has more mass (inertia); and there are lot of corners on the ‘Ring. IMHO, there is a Z06 time already, but it is not better than the ZR1’s. It can’t and it will never be. Engineers must be checking programs, tires, suspensions, etc at this time. Drivers must be lapping over and over again waiting for a miracle to happen. But when it comes to racing dynamics, and more specifically power-to-weight ratio, there is no miracle. It’s simply laws of physics: same force applied to objects of different mass, the one with more mass will experience less acceleration.
