Ty Dillon, Casey Mears Running SpongeBob SquarePants Themed Chevrolets At Kansas

NASCAR and Nickelodeon may seem like an unlikely match, but both entities are all about fun, which means this weekend’s SpongeBob SquarePants 400 at Kansas Speedway should be a blast. The chipper sea-dwelling kitchen sponge and his Bikini Bottom friends have found their way onto five different NASCAR Sprint Cup cars for the first of two races to be held at Kansas in 2015, two of which are Chevys.

Casey Mears will be behind the wheel of the No. 13 Squidward Tentacles Chevrolet SS, while Ty Dillon will be piloting the No. 33 Plankton Chevrolet. Both cars feature depictions of the respective SpongeBob characters they are representing, (we particularly like the placement of Plankton’s single Cyclops eye on the hood), and are joined by Larry the Lobster, SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star-themed Fords and Toyotas fielded by Michael McDowell, David Ragan and Greg Biffle.

“I grew up watching episodes of SpongeBob SquarePants on Nickelodeon, so you can imagine it’s pretty cool to have Plankton on our Chevrolet SS,” said Dillon. “The NASCAR community is fortunate to have such a great partner in Nickelodeon for this weekend and to utilize our sport in its activation plans. Nickelodeon is all about kids and having fun and I look forward to having some fun with the Nickelodeon characters and their guests at the race track this weekend.”

The family-themed SpongeBob Squarepants 400 coincides nicely with Mother’s Day weekend. Families attending the race will be able to enjoy different activities at the Nickelodeon Kids Zone, including a meet and greet with SpongeBob SquarePants costumed characters. Combine that with yellow SpongeBob painted track walls, SpongeBob-themed cars and even a SpongeBob trophy and there’s really no denying this weekend’s NASCAR festivities will be fun for all.

Cheer Mears and Dillon on in their SpongeBob Chevys when the green flag waves for the SpongeBob SquarePants 400 on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
