Dodge has currently swept the muscle car field with the introduction of its 707 hp Challenger and Charger Hellcat. Although these two vehicle aren’t meant for track day thrills, they still boast more power than any Camaro in stock configuration.
But rather than cater to just the folks who want to go on green, Chevrolet and the Camaro team have been carefully mastering the art of stop, go and turn with the fifth-generation Camaro ZL1 and Z/28. That’s why Chevrolet is most definitely readying their answer in form of an all new Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.
Courtesy of Top Speed, the fine folks have rendered us what a plausible (2018?) Camaro ZL1 could look like. It’s quite believable, with a more aggressive front fascia fit with more aero bits, a lower overall stance, accentuated power bulge and more.
But what kind of power could be under the hood this go around?
Back in April, Hod Rod decided to create an elaborate ruse about a twin-turbocharged 6.5-liter V8 engine producing well over 800 hp. It even prompted a curious response from Camaro lead engineer, Al Oppenheiser. While we strongly doubt an all-new engine will be under the hood, it’s very likely a 2018 Camaro ZL1 would continue to follow big-brother Corvette’s footsteps and land the LT4 6.2-liter V8 supercharged engine. The LT4 is also lighter, and would only add to the 2016 Camaro’s recent diet in the best way possible.
Unless some sort of secret LT7 project is underway, our money is on this situation.
What is more likely, though, is the addition of carbon-fiber wheels and massive brakes for increased stopping power. But don’t expect a new Camaro ZL1 to get too track happy, because some things must be reserved for the inevitable return of the Camaro Z/28.
What’s your say? Should a new Camaro ZL1 look something like this? Let us know down below in the comments.

GM already proved the validity of stacking the ZL1 as the all around, street bruising, Speek King of Camaros. I see no reason for GM to change things up now.
I’m more excited to see what the standard 6th gen SS is capable of. Rumor has it as being quicker than a 5th gen 1LE. That’s no mean feat. Just think how much faster a 6th gen 1LE will be!
If you want to do vents might move them to the sides of the hood as the one mule had. I suspect it was the ZL1 or what ever they will call it.
the vents were like the ones on Jay Leno’s TT V6 Turbo.
it coulda gun slit little more, mi love it bad bad.
I have a 2013 camaro ss and I still can not tell the difference other than the front. If this is all, when I decide to trade up I think i may go with the 2016 shelby gt 500.
I hope they discontinue the zl1 so mine will be more valuable. Offer an affordable z28
