For years, Chevrolet has rolled out all-new models while repurposing the previous generation of the mode for fleets. And now that the all-new ninth-generation 2016 Chevy Malibu is upon us, the latest vehicle to receive the fleet-only treatment is the last-, eighth-generation Malibu.
This means that, for the time being, GM will concurrently produce two generations of the Chevy Malibu side-by-side:
- The all-new, ninth-generation 2016 Chevy Malibu on the E2XX platform
- The last-generation Malibu on the Epsilon II platform
To perform its fleet duties adequately, the latter will become known as the Malibu Limited and receive several changes to make it more appropriate for fleet use. The changes are as follows.
To start, the 2016 Chevy Malibu Limited loses four exterior colors but gains three new ones:
Deleted Colors
- Autumn Bronze Metallic
- Sable Metallic
- Black Granite Metallic
- Atlantis Blue Metallic
New Colors
- Siren Red Tintcoat
- Blue Velvet Metallic
- Black
In addition, the 2016 Malibu Limited does away with several equipment options, including:
- Leather Package
- LTZ Premium Package and its contents
- 18- and 19-inch aluminum wheels and associated tires
- 95AH and 60AH batteries
- 2.0L Turbo LTG engine
The 2016 Malibu Limited also removes the OnStar delete option, meaning that all 2016 Malibu Limited units will have OnStar with the free 6-month trial of the OnStar Guidance plan.
Under the hood, the 2016 Malibu Limited replaces the 2.5L Ecotec LKW motor with the 2.5L Ecotec LCV, while gaining an 800 CCA battery.

What. where is new malibu. they update the old maliby today. wtf ?
Can’t sell ’em? Rent ’em.
I believe the formal name is ‘Malibu Limited Appeal’.
Chevrolet is doing the right thing by keeping he last gen Malibu around for fleet use only.
This will help protect the average transaction prices for the new model while giving them something to sell to important fleet customers. Also selling the old model they will wring a few more dollars out of the tooling from the last gen.
This will only last a model year or two then they will phase out the last gen. Smart move.
The Impala is the Same we build the last gen impala (limited) in Consolidated and the next gen impala in Flex. It’s a very good thing as it helps increase residual value on the next gen models.
how long they will still be selling the old. New has long been presented. GM has a lot of strange things, and things are moving very slowly.
Products from other manufacturers selling much faster after the premiere. and the various versions of the model.
GM, however, brings its world premiere on a very long time. and then it goes a very long time when it comes to the market model. and then goes for a long time as this model come in different versions on the market yet.
to the detriment of stretching. Cars are getting older. and even a new concept cars are getting older.
nothing smart here.
todat must be new maliby on market not update old maliby today . and it is, after all, the only news that is the old malibu updates. when it reaches the market still turn.
whether they earn a little more money and lose the love for the old malibu. and lose the value of the new Malibu.
it would be much wiser to bring to market a long time ago, and the new Malibu various benefits of fresh produce.
get new customers. New products obsolete, and other manufacturers to bring new products to market and competition.
the sooner the new fresh products into the market the more useful and wiser
I agree that GM takes to long to get concepts and new models to market after their reveal which I think takes off some of the luster when they hit the market.
They should limit the reveal to just a 3 or 4 months before availability.
which will be on sale at the new maliby. It is nowhere stated. or the length of time they updated this old malibu still want to sell
The new ‘Bu is a 2016 model and I am certain I read that production and availability will begin in the 4th quarter.
Well, okay. it is more promotional campaign to buy more of the latest, as far as possible.
But so long it takes to reach the market with new models. and this is definitely not a good thing.
and lost interest in the product ages.
reaching the market is already two years old
This is the same move GM has done with the out going models the last few years. It works really well protecting prices on the new models and still brings income in to GM in profits.
The new car will be out by this fall around the same time this one goes to fleet.
We will see the same with the Cruze too and the Equinox when the new models arrive.
GM is not taking too long brining new models out. The new Malibu came in a very short time. To be honest it is amazing they are getting so many models done as fast as they are. The cost of development is very high and the number of people it takes on each model to bring it to life is difficult to do as many have to move from one project to another.
The main two reasons they do this is one protect the resale values of the new car and to make extra profits from the out going cars that are already in production and already have paid off their development and tooling cost so they can be sold cheap to the fleet sales.
the Captiva here in the states has proven very profitable and has well protected the Nox values. The Impala did the same and we will see more of this soon as it is a win win for GM.
They will not do this without the new car being out or in production.
This is one of the many smart things new GM is doing. No more deals like the old Grand Prix where they sold the new and fleet along side killing the resale with used Enterprise cars.
old car is old car and new is new. the competition is very strong. the new product is a better option or competitors get bigger sales.
GM are only interested in sales numbers not products and reputation. The situation is slightly better but a lot has changed thrive.
VW-AUDI-BMW-MB is the most important products and reputation. Sales success comes along with it. Only sales numreid chase does not achieve anything. produce large amounts of crap. GM has more to change their attitude. American car is just a vehicle.
Here also a lot of people say that this car is a good as it was sold and sold a lot.
Chinese also sell a lot of things.
I do not care, I want the number of sales that the new Malibu was already on the market with new competitors.
the better. must be the most complete solution for newer and fresher.
must be the fastest and most innovative. you can get the best.
Observe daily auto world news VW-BMW-AUDI-MB . gm news is funny on-star and new colors
Don’t forget they are talking about an entirely different customer; this is directed at fleet rental companies who really only care about the bottom cost of the car when they buy it from the manufacturer. If this was directed at retail customers like you and me, this would be the new 2016 Malibu but these are for rental and other fleet companies. Again, bottom line costs is what these companies go by. They don’t care if the vehicle is the latest and greatest. I deal with these companies every day.
You have to understand this is America and not Europe.
The old car is not of value if you do nothing and if you can gain 2-3 more years of profits even at a discount to rental fleets it will make money. Also you have to understand no one here wants to spend $35K and in a year see a rental company dump their fleet of rentals on the market killing resale.
We took the Captiva your old OPEL not sold here in any other version since Saturn died. It has been popular at rental fleets and made money. It also protected the Equinox from resale issues. This has lead to continues higher and higher sales per each year sold vs where most cars decline as so many used ones are dumped from rental fleets on the market.
Why buy a new one if Enterprise is dumping 25K mile model on the market you can get for much less.
This is a win win profit wise and value wise for GM and the Customer.
The new car is coming in record time and will be very competitive in a tough segment. While it may have trouble with the traditional Honda And Toyota buyers they will pick up much from the rest of the market.
The fact is even with the cars they have now they still out sell VW here. While you may see the VW as a really stylish and great car we here see it as a some what dull car in Passat form that only practical people buy. Yes we have a small pocket of GTI buyers but even their HP is low compared to other models including my 7 year old GM Turbo.
As for BMW and Benz and Audi many just buy because of the badge. Yes many do understand the engineering but also the other half buy just because it makes them look rich because they can make a high car payment. There are many auto fraud types out there as even some are in leased Corvettes.
I am glad that it will be around for a while . I will be able to buy one used from Enterprise.
