Historically, Detroit’s Belle Isle circuit was practically a guaranteed win for Cadillac Racing, with driver Johnny O’Connell winning four out of five races in the past. Today wasn’t as fruitful. In fact, today downright sucked for our favorite Pirelli World Challenge team.
Instead, it was K-PAX Racing (the only other team to beat Cadillac Racing on Belle Isle) and Kevin Estre in the No. 09 McLaren 650S GT3 who snatched a win from Cadillac’s home turf. He won by 9.6 seconds.
Olivier Beretta, the season’s current points leader, was second in the No. 61 Ferrari 458 GT3 Italia, while Chris Dyson took third in the No. 16 Bentley GT3.
O’Connell finished fourth in his No. 03 Cadillac ATS-V.R GT3 race car. Andy Pilgrim, in the No. 08 ATS-V.R, retired early from mechanical problems. He will be forced to start 24th (dead last) during tomorrow’s race, which will begin with a standing start.
O’Connell will start fourth.
