The Chevrolet Cruze represents perhaps the first relevant and quality entry into the compact car segment here in the US market. Since its launch here in 2010, it’s aged rather well, with an ever-so-slight refresh happening for the 2015 model year. Yet the life span for the face-lifted Cruze will be short-lived, as there’s an all-new 2016 Chevrolet Cruze fast approaching.
Now, we have an official reveal date from Chevrolet.
Chevrolet has announced the 2016 Cruze will be unveiled in Detroit on June 24th. The 2016 Cruze unveiling will finally round out what Chevrolet has called its “Five in ’15” mantra for the year. The other four releases include the 2016 Volt, 2016 Malibu, 2016 Spark and, of course, the 2016 Camaro.
These five new vehicles keep Chevrolet’s lineup nearly 85 percent new, reserving the trucks for a later refresh date. And that’s important in today’s industry where we’re constantly drawn in with a “what’s new is best” mentality.
The 2016 Cruze is tipped to introduce a new seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, with seven cogs being a first in this segment for a DCT system. Currently, only the Mazda 3, Ford Focus and Dodge Dart utilize a DCT unit. The 2016 Cruze will also be one of the incoming Chevrolet models to have full support for Apple’s CarPlay and Android Auto.
We will be on location June 24th to capture the 2016 Cruze reveal. In the meantime, have a look at the car spied completely uncovered, here.
