If you’re one of the numerous tuning outfits obsessed with pushing V-max speeds and reducing 0-60 mph times, nothing sells cars and ends debates faster than the ability to claim “world’s fastest (insert vehicle here)”.
Enter Vengeance Racing and its freshly tuned 2015 Corvette Z06, known as the C7Z, which flew through the quarter mile in 10.20 seconds at 142.7 mph while testing at the South Georgia Motorsports Park on April 2.
With that run, the company declared that the C7Z is the quickest 2015 Z06 on the planet in the quarter mile. For now.
The car ran the numbers on 93 pump octane gas, though the company did add a dose of VP M1 methanol to the tank. In current tune, the car kicks-out about 740-750 hp at the rear wheels.
The company says the car has performed flawlessly on the street, but after being subjected to over 100 dyno pulls and 100 extra horses the abuse finally took its toll on the stock clutch.
During their first launch at the track the test crew tried to shoot out of the hole at 2,000 RPM. The clutch instantly went up in smoke, severally hurting their chances of quick launches and rapid gear swapping for the day.
But, as you’ll see in the video, they persevered anyway and still managed to bag the 10.20 run.
Suffice to say, the company plans to fit a new, RPS triple-disc clutch and will head back to the track ASAP to get all the good, hard numbers it can.
