Rare LT5 Crate Engine Is Without A Car

Looking for a great engine for your project car? How about a factory-fresh DOHC LT5 V8 from a Corvette C4 ZR-1?

The seller says the Lotus-engineered, four-valve, aluminum-block V8 is in complete working order and comes with pretty much everything you need to transplant it into a willing donor car.

You’ll get all the gubbins like the pulleys, brackets, belts, power steering pump, alternator, A/C compressor, tensioner, oil pump, lines, cooler, starter, ignition wires, custom K&N air filter, Auto flex plate, ceramic coated headers, wiring harness and PCM.

We’re told the LT5 spent some time under the hood of a highly-modified 1957 Chevrolet Cameo pickup, but eventually the owner decided to go another route and it was removed.

While we’re puzzled at the truck owner’s decision, it means that you could get your hands on a complete LT5 engine for just $8,999. Plus, you also get a 14-day money-back return policy, just in case you can’t fit the LT5 under the hood of your Pontiac Solstice project car.

One thing’s for sure, any vehicle would be about 10x better with this ZR-1 engine under the hood.

A far-too-tall Ontarian who likes to focus on the business end of the auto industry, in part because he's too tall to safely swap cogs in a Corvette Stingray.

  1. One would be better off with a GM LT crate engine. It has a full warranty and more power.

This engine is a novelty at best. It is heavy and low on power compared to todays modern engines.

At best it would make an interesting street rod engine in a open hooded hot rod.

    1. @ scott3 For the money you are correct but this is hardly a novelty at best. Gave me a good chuckle. Did you know these can make 1000 hp NA? Guys on the street are pushing 750-800+ naturally spirated. That is hardly a novelty. They can rev 8500-9k reliably as well. Again Hardly a novelty. Get your facts straight. Expensive yes.. but ensures every hillbilly around the corner doesnt have one as well and it also is possibly the only v-8 withough pickup truck roots. Too bad its a Lotus designed and engineered piece or GM would have been bragging for 25 years.

      1. LMAO @ Mike, you have no clue what you’re talking about. 1000 horsepower NA lol? You are delusional because you are referring to peak power, and even then it wouldn’t see 1000 horsepower naturally aspirated spun to 8000-RPM. Perhaps you need to get your facts straight. Scott is absolutely right, someone would be better off investing in newer tech than old tech, especially from a PCM perspective unless you want to waste your time fiddling around with a Megasquirt to power the ancient C4 ZR1 engine. Hell the NEW four valve per cylinder V6 would dance around this DOHC LT5 engine if built properly. Freaking hillbilly’s…
