From the depths of a dystopian society comes your chance to own a piece of the original Death Race 2000. The original Death Race 2000 took place in a frightful future, where the race was not only judged on how fast one was, but how many pedestrians were seemingly struck along the way. And one of those death machines was none other than this 1975Â C3 Corvette replica.
We say replica because, it’s actually not a true 1975Â C3 Corvette, but takes on the role in the entire film. The vehicle is actually built around a Volkswagen platform from the 1970s, and was then mocked up to resemble a C3 Corvette. Coincidentally, Frankenstein was the pilot of this machine, and the car is quite the hodgepodge of parts itself.
Power comes from a Chevrolet Corvair sourced air-cooled flat-six engine, which hides in the rear behind the obvious mock engine atop the build. Because let’s face it, an air-cooled flat-six isn’t the most frightening of powerplants. A three-speed manual handles the shifting duties.
The vehicle was designed by James Powers and built by Dean Jefferies, who turned the VW platformed car into a C3 looking alligator complete with teeth up front.
Mecum will do the honors of auctioning the vehicle off, so grab your popcorn and see where this pseudo-C3 Corvette ends up.
