You have to hand it to professor-doctor Karl-Thomas Neumann. Not only does he helm Opel, the 51-year-old also finds time to train for and run a full marathon.
The good doctor tackled this year’s Virgin Money London Marathon along with CFO Michael Lohscheller, fitness expert Sonja von Opel– great-great-granddaughter of company founder Adam Opel–along with five colleagues from sister brand Vauxhall.
“Marathons are my passion – and obviously running on a course with iconic buildings such as Tower Bridge and Big Ben makes it very special,” said Neumann after crossing finishing near Buckingham Palace. “I am very happy with the result. My ‘personal coach’ Sonja von Opel prepared me for the event in numerous training runs. Obviously, it was still hard work.”
The trio took also happened to take part in the biggest London Marathon ever, as more than 37,000 participants from around the globe set off from the starting point in Blackheath.
While some of those participants didn’t cross the finish line, the trio from Opel managed to tackle the entire 26.2-mile course– a victory in itself.
With the marathon out of the way, there’s no doubt the Opel CEO has turned his attention back to more mundane tasks, like finding a way for Opel to turn a profit next year.
