How Did Tom Cruise’s ‘Days Of Thunder’ Chevrolet Lumina End Up In Switzerland?

Former NASCAR stock cars are fairly easy to come by in the United States and in some cases they can even be fairly cheap, but we imagine it’s not every day that you find one for sale in Switzerland. Classic Driver has just that listed on their site right now, though, and to make it even stranger, it was once driven by Tom Cruise.

We’re not entirely sure Tom Cruise drove this exact car, but with his history of doing his own stunts in movies, we wouldn’t bet against it. According to the movie’s IMDb page, Cruise crashed a car while filming the movie after being forced to read his lines off cue cards attached to the windshield, so we know he did at least some of the stunt driving for the not-so-highly acclaimed stock car action thriller.

This Winston Cup car uses a Chevrolet Lumina body and a 642 horsepower Chevrolet Small Block, keeping it in a similar spec to the actual race cars used in the series at the time. It’s also only ever been driven 622 miles, so it probably won’t be picked up by anyone looking for a weekend racer.

Whether they’re a huge Tom Cruise fan or a long-time NASCAR viewer, we can see this car getting sold to a collector in no-time. There’s no word as to what it’s worth, but if you’re interested, you can contact the dealership here.

Sam loves to write and has a passion for auto racing, karting and performance driving of all types.

  1. Greg Sacks did most of the driving of any value. The insurance would not have let an actor do too much if there was any risk.

Many involved with NASCAR still cringe when they see this movie.

I hate to say it but Stroker Ace as crazy as it was had a little more truth to it. If you were around in the 70’s and 80’s you would know. Just read the book on Tim Richmond and see what all he did and that was only one driver.
