GM-OnStar Drops Support For RemoteLink Version 1.9

General Motors is no longer supporting 1.9x versions of its OnStar RemoteLink app — the previous version of the popular mobile app. To continue using RemoteLink, OnStar is advising users to update to the new RemoteLink version 2.0, which was released in late January.

We attempted to log in to RemoteLink version 1.9, but were presented with the following error message:

This version of the application is no longer supporter and an application update is required to continue use. If you choose not to update, your application will no longer function

Released in January 20515, RemoteLink 2.0 delivers a completely-redesigned user interface and several new features. As before, the core features of the app include checking vehicle health and location as well as carrying out key fob functions such as locking and unlocking doors, performing a remote start, and activating the horn and lights, among others.

  1. The new version requires iOS 7 or later. For anyone limping along with an iPhone previous to to the iPhone 4 (released in 2010), you’re out of luck. Most other apps have gone this way, too, as most people have upgraded to newer phones and the current version of iOS.

    1. Actually, you get a trial of 3 GB or 3 months with any new 4G LTE and Wi-Fi vehicle.

Outside of that, you can add the car to an ATT plan as a device for $10 per month and share date between all of your devices.

If that’s not setting you want to do, then it’s $5 per month or per 250MB one-time purchase. So the price of entry is pretty low.

“For the few times one would use it”? Why for the “few” times? I use mine every day.
