GM Fairfax Plant Sees No Injuries From Last Week’s Fire

It seems employees at GM’s Fairfax assembly plant can now take the words of Sweet Brown to heart, as a fire erupted at the plant last Wednesday night.

While we’re unsure of whether any of the employees were reachin’ for a cold pop at the time, we can tell you that sparks from a welding torch ignited lubricating oil stored inside a paint shop, causing an estimated $600,000 in repairs, according to reports.

The building’s sprinkler system doused most of the flames but firefighters were still called in to extinguish some of the burning oil that was ignited on the surface of the standing water from the sprinklers.

Luckily, no injuries were reported.

Located at 3201 Fairfax Trafficway in Kansas City, the plant employs more than 3,500 people and currently produces the Chevrolet Malibu and Buick LaCrosse.

Now you know exactly what to tell the dealer if your new Malibu or LaCrosse smells like barbecue: “ain’t nobody got time for that.”
