Dodge Viper TA Gets Dive-Bombed By 2015 Corvette Z06 At The Track: Video

For nearly two-and-a-half decades the Dodge Viper and Chevrolet Corvette have competed against each other for the domestic sports car crown. It might be bad on tires but, like gladiators in the ring, it’s a bloodsport we just can’t get enough of.
When one takes the lead–like Chevy did with the Corvette ZR1– the other is bound to strike back. And that’s exactly what Dodge aimed to do when the Dodge Viper TA (Time Attack) hit the streets in late 2013.
On paper, they were truly neck and neck. While the TA’s 640 hp just out-punched the ZR1’s 638 hp, the Viper made due with just 600 lb-ft of torque, down 4 lb-ft on the range-topping C6.
Fast forward to the present, and we have the 650 hp, 650 lb-ft 2015 Corvette Z06, which handily bests the TA on paper, cooking up an extra 12 hp and an extra 50 lb-ft of torque. Though, the story isn’t always the same on track. Or is it?
The drivers in the video below look to answer that very important question: Which is fastest on track, a 2014 Viper TA or a 2015 Corvette Z06 equipped with the Z07 performance package?
Okay, the drivers are probably having a bit of fun too, but it’s great to see two lethal track-machines scoot by everything else.
We won’t ruin the driving or the ending here but we highly recommend you block off 11-minutes of your life and watch these two assault the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
First off, Love the video! I’ve been patiently waiting for MotorTrend’s Head to Head of these two amazing American cars but I suppose those this is the closest thing I have for now! Unfortunately there are WAY TOO MANY variables in this videos! One, I’m sure neither of these drivers have the skills of Randy Pobst! Two, the traffic of other drivers on the course also played a “Significant” role in both drivers performance! Third, one can’t say for certain about the Z06 but the Viper had a passenger smh (with the average man weighing around 175lbs, that’s a lot of extra weight to be carrying!)
C7 Z06 650HP 650TQ
Viper TA 645HP 600TQ (However is AROUND 200lbs lighter!)
Actually Isaiah, look what I found under the OP’s Youtube videos. He was was instructing Randy Pobst at VIR!!! 😮
I love both cars¡¡
But I do not like Fiat is seeking an American legend as is the Viper
Goliath vs. Goliath, and look at all those sheep!
Great video!!!
Both drivers were doing a helluva job, on a side note it was cold up there this weekend so tires weren’t optimum.
The Corvette destroys the Viper!
The Viper interior is dated.
Sorry, but as diplomatic as the previous comments are, the Z06 clearly outclassed the Vipe T/A. The Viper literally drove it’s tires off just trying to keep the Vette in sight on the curves. And actually fell off the pace in the straights. Luckily there was traffic to dice through, or the Vette would have ran away.
Either way, awesome vid. Nice to see some thoroughbred being rung within an inch of their lives.
Great little dog fight. But while the Viper was on the ragged edge destroying it’s tires, the C7 driver would have been far more relaxed enjoying cool AC and listening to the excellent Bose system… Lol
Bose system ?? Yuck.
clearly the vette is the superior car out of the two. Viper cookee its tires just trying to keep up. I would imagine the vette driver was not over driving the car. Two amazing track cars but vette takes the win here. To much technology
I am not sure what video some of you watched, but I saw a driver being instructed. Both cars dealing with traffic. The Viper reel in the Z06. I would be willing to bet the Z06 had pegged the water and oil temp, and was in limp mode. The Viper was probably on Pirelli’s and the Corvette was on Michellin’s PSC2 tire. Pirelli’s aren’t a bad tire, they are not as gummy as a PSC2. I’ll take a Viper. Had my fill of Corvette issues that ruined many track weekends.
