The Chevrolet Suburban has served as a military vehicle, family car, police car, fire chiefs vehicle and much, much more throughout its extremely long lifespan. First introduced in 1935 as a wagon riding on a truck frame, the model is loved all around North America for its size, usability and reliability, so there’s no way we are going to go without recognizing its 80th birthday.
There’s a good chance you know somebody with a Suburban who swears by it. As shown in the video below, the full-size SUV has been taking people where they need to go no matter what the circumstances are for almost 100 hundred years, and it’s on track for another successful 100 years. The Suburban has seen many similar body-on-frame SUVs come and go in its lifetime, while it’s still very much alive and kicking today.
Were sure the numerous organizations and companies that rely on the Suburban every day, including the President’s Secret Service, are happy to see the Suburban celebrate its 80th birthday. Join us in the celebrations by watching Chevy’s compilation on the ever-important SUV below, and feel free to spout your love for the Suburban in the comments.

The first Suburban I know I was in was my uncle’s. I have no idea if it was new (though I doubt it, he was a frugal farmer who rarely bought anything new), what year it was, or any other detail. I was maybe 10 years-old and this was back in the 1960s. But it must have been a great vehicle, because I will never forget the crazy terrain he took us through. Thanks Uncle Walt for helping me become a GM guy.
