Chevrolet-Based M1028 CUCV Could Star In The New Mad Max Movie

Have you pined for piece of rolling military memorabilia? Is the GMC Vandura G-Series from the A-Team just a little too wimpy for you? If you answered “hell yeah!” to either of those questions we’ve found a bone-crushing piece of badass just for you.

Meet the 1985 M1028 Commercial Utility Cargo Vehicle (CUCV), a surplus military cargo vehicle built from an Chevrolet C/K that’s about as ’80’s as Chuck Norris’ all-powerful beard. And it can be all yours for just $8,000.

Wrapped in an alleged $3,000-worth of desert-spec camo vinyl, this two-door pickup is fed by a 6.2L diesel V8 that sends power to four nearly-new Super Swamper tires, through a three-speed automatic transmission.

You’ll get a whole host of awesomeness for your cash, including:

    • New $4K crate transmission installed about 1.5 years ago
    • New winch
    • Two New Off Road Lights with inside switch
    • Four Original spare tires
    • New CB radio w/ antenna
    • Truck cap
    • New dash
    • New door panels
    • New seat cover
    • Two 5-gallon fuel tanks mounted to exterior
    • Comes with shovel/ax mouted to inside of cap with gear box
    • New fire extinguisher and mount
    • Maglite and mounts
    • Brush guard

“But, is there a place for my guns?” you ask. Hell yes! This beast has you covered with a ceiling-mounted Big Sky shotgun rack and a Glock 19 under-dash holster. Mad Max would love it.

But, our favorite feature has to be what we call ‘Stealth Mode’: an internal switch that blacks out all the lights, including the brake lights. Likely for raids and such.

Sure, you’ll have to deal with slightly rusty wheels, a wonky wrap, a short in the ignition chain somewhere, a broken speedo and more, but who really cares when you know this CUCV was “beat to crap” while in service – those aren’t dents and dings, they’re battle scars.

Unfortunately, time has passed to secure the perimeter M-1028, but no need to worry, as it doesn’t seem to have sold. Which means it will likely surface again soon.

A far-too-tall Ontarian who likes to focus on the business end of the auto industry, in part because he's too tall to safely swap cogs in a Corvette Stingray.
