Don’t believe anything you read on April Fools Day. We published our own humorous pieces for the unofficial holiday, however ours were obviously not real. Hot Rod, however, published a fairly believable article claiming they had dug up performance figures and details on an upcoming ‘2016 Camaro ZL2’.
Luckily we remained sharp and didn’t believe Hot Rod’s piece, but more than one person out there definitely fell for the elaborate ruse. They claimed an upcoming high-performance ZL2 was going to arrive with a 6.5-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine producing over 800 horsepower along with carbon fiber wheels, 16-inch brakes and more claims. That would be great, but it’s quite obviously too good to be true.
The April Fools Day prank even caught the attention of Chevrolet Camaro chief engineer Al Oppenheiser, who responded to a Facebook share of the article with “Hmmmmm!” Could Al be open to the idea of a twin-turbo V8 camaro with carbon fiber wheels? We sure hope so, but we’ll have to wait sometime to find out just what he has up his sleeve in regards to next-gen high performance Camaro.
You can read Hot Rod’s Camaro ZL2 piece here and their admission that it was a fake story here.

If that ever happens, that would out hellcats and Ford on shut
I think by the time the Camaro line is filled out most will see the Hellcat was an engine and not much else. All the HP in the world does you little good if you can’t put it down.
Smoking $300 tires may be fun for many but when you want to get on it with all you have that is time lost and often a race.
I like the approach of GM and Ford on how they are working to make cars that are the complete package where they go, stop and turn with world class cars.
The loss of mass, the new platform and the higher level of refiment will be greater in this Camaro than we have ever seen. This will be the first time that a GM took the time and money to finish a Camaro. No cheap interior and no short cuts buy just sticking big tires on to make the car stick and no adapting another platform just to make the car as the Camaro was considered here since the inception of the Alpha.
Ruess has stated that all they learned on the ATS and CTS that they liked they applied and the things they needed to address was changed.
Just warning everyone tat there are some trolls on here voting down any good comments about GM or their products. Many of us can see the typical down-vote patterns.
Obviously the competition is a little bit worried…
You defeat trolls by not caring and posting the truth.
In the end reality bites them in the ass every time.
It is a shame they don’t have enough confidence it their own choice of product they can not just let it make a statement for itself. The truth is it will be fun with the new Camaro and Mustang jockeying for high ground.
the 2018 Camaro ZL1 1LE package is without a dout a true “Super Car”! It’s not only dominating cars costing millions dollars on the track, crushing it’s ( so called) competition, not to mention it’s one of the best looking rides in the world and cost well under $100k. Great Job Chevy (GM) keep kicking ass and taking names! who needs a Rustang or Snail Cat!
