Another Chevrolet Corvette Baldwin Motion Phase III GT Hits Ebay

Baldwin. Most people associate the name with a guy named Alec or, if you’re a fan of 90’s movies, his brother Stephen amongst others. Point is, only diehard GM fans will associate ‘Baldwin’ with the Chevrolet Corvette.

Less than a year ago a mail-order Baldwin hit the auction block for $127,500 but couldn’t find a buyer. If you were holding off for a real Baldwin, today is your day. And if this one isn’t too your liking, you can also check out this Baldwin.

Before we get into the goods, let’s take a brief dive into its history. Joel Rosen, aka Mr. Motion, was a racer and tuner and ran a tuning company called Motion Performance out of Long Island, NY.

He teamed up with Baldwin Chevrolet to build a limited run of special Corvette’s, eventually branding them the ‘Motion Baldwin’ Corvettes. Spanning just three years–1969 to 1971–the partnership was extremely brief.

Here before you, is an original 1969 Baldwin Motion Chevrolet Corvette 427/435 Phase III GT, seen in its original Gold paint. The seller, Exotic Cars of Houston, claims this is just one of ten Phase III vehicles ever built.

You’d be right in thinking this one looks a little different from other Baldwin’s you’ve seen. For one thing it’s the only one to feature “Shelby GT” side scoops. Which brings us to the other point– no two Baldwins are the same.

Even from the picture it’s clear to tell this ‘Vette’s been treated to a host of modifications, including:

  • Exposed headlights
  • Flared fenders
  • Unique slit tail-light treatment
  • Motion valve covers
  • Edelbrock intake
  • A Holley carb
  • Side louvres
  • A functional hood scoop
  • Motion “tractor bar”
  • Motion slotted -wheels with tapered lug nuts
  • Mickey Thompson tires, and even more

Buyers can rest assured knowing that this particular M-B Phase III GT has spent the majority of its life–33 years– in the ownership of one person. Making this vehicle even rarer is the fact that just six M-B Phase III GT’s are known to survive.

The price has yet to hit the reserve and seeing as how the last “mail-order” M-B was listed at $127,000, you can pretty well guarantee this original example is bound to be sold for an even healthier sum.

A far-too-tall Ontarian who likes to focus on the business end of the auto industry, in part because he's too tall to safely swap cogs in a Corvette Stingray.
