Having made its debut for the 2015 model year as an all-new model, the K2XX-platformed, fourth-generation Chevrolet Tahoe has become quite the sales hit despite a notable price increase. And for the 2016 model year, the full-size SUV is getting some welcome changes and updates that mirror those of its longer twin, the 2016 Chevy Suburban.
To start, the 2016 Chevy Tahoe does away with two exterior colors while gaining two new ones:
Deleted Colors
- Crystal Red Tintcoat
- White Diamond Tricoat
New Colors
- Siren Red Tintcoat
- Iridescent Pearl Tricoat
Inside, the 2016 Chevy Tahoe does away with the integrated SD card reader in the center console as well as the AM/FM stereo with CD player, officially marking the end of an integrated CD player for the Tahoe. Meanwhile, the SUV gains the reconfigurable gauge cluster, head-up display (HUD), IntelliBeam headlamps, and Lane Keep Assist, which replaces Lane Departure Warning.
In addition, the capless fuel fill system is now standard on all trim levels, the Theft Protection Package (UTT) adds the liftgate shield, and a revision to the Enhanced Driver Alert Package contains power-adjustable pedals, Forward Collision Alert, IntelliBeam headlamps, Lane Keep Assist and Safety alert seat.
Unfortunately, the 2016 Tahoe does not see GM’s new 8-speed transmission. It also doesn’t see GM’s 6.2L EcoTec3 L86 V8 engine or a diesel motor, even as optional equipment.
Check the official RPO-level changes for yourself just below.

sorry to see GMDO AWAY WITH CRYSTAL RED AS I WAS GOINGTO ORDER A2016 YUKON OR TAHOE WITH THAT COLOR O WELL.
Dale, I work as a Sale and Lease professional at a Chevrolet dealership in New York and the Siren Red Tintcoat is very similar if not almost the same color. I think you will accept that as a replacement for your Loved Crystal Red…
Even though the Tahoe didn’t get the 8 speed or 6.2L EcoTec3, the reconfigurable gauge cluster, IntelliBeam, and a HUD are huge additions. Ever since I sat down in the new Escalade at the Dallas Auto show, the reconfigurable gauge cluster really makes standard gauges look ancient. The HUD actually surprised me, I could of sworn the 2015 Tahoe had it standard. And after a long road trip at night in South Texas, intellibeam would of been a god send, I felt like I was going to wear out my high beams after turning them off and on constantly! Definitely nice additions to the 2016 MY.
How does the reconfigurable gauge cluster trickle down to the Tahoe before the ATS or even the ATS-V?
Different models on different cycles. But I agree, this should have made it to the Caddies way before!
still no diesel engine for Tahoe or Yukon . guess I have to look elsware when I am ready to buy a new one.
No one has a diesel in this segment… where else are you going to look?
what will the drivetrain warrenty be for the2016 gas powered line.
Its a 5 year 60k mile power train.
GM is no longer doing the 5 year 100k PT
What kind of price increase are we looking at for a 2016?
Not announced yet, but it probably will stay the same as the 2015 MYs.
I drive from my wheelchair. Im buying a new GM vehicle. Do you know if the 2015 (and 2016) Chevy Tahoe and GMC Yukon – come with electric or hydraulic powered brakes?
In order to make the braking easier (and backup system) the handicap conversion places prefer hydraulic. Otherwise I have to spend even more money to have them change electric brakes to hydraulic. Thx!
Here is a cool video showing how i drive from my wheelchair…
Do we know when 2016 Tahoes will be on dealer lots? Also, does anyone know if they intend to do 0% on the 2015’s at that point?
they are on lots now
Great changes, looking forward to when they come out
I have a bad back with limited mobility and would like to know if you have considered placing the seat auto adjustment buttons on the dash rather than so low on the door panel? My dealer (W-K Chevrolet) in Sedalia Mo said there was room to the left of the steering column but the estimate to do this was prohibitive. This sure would be a welcome move for people with my condition.
This thing is every thing that you could want in a new SUV. It’s big, beautiful and powerful. It sits up high like a true truck, it has the power and the size to pull anything that you would want to pull with it. The comfort of the leather seats could only be rivaled by that of the higher end Lexus Sedans. I am a independent repair facility technician so I have the privilege of driving new and nice cars daily. GM has been setting the standard for reliability the last 5-10 years. I’m hoping to see that the front suspension parts last a little longer than they did on the 06-09 Tahoes. I like being paid to replace them, but not on my own. The technology packed into this thing is extraordinary. My favorite is the secret compartment behind the nav screen. A good place to store things while you are parked to keep them out of site.
The ease of use of the power rear seats is amazing. No more fighting with which handle to grab or knob to pull. The sound system is fantastic. The handling and speed and comfort of the truck is amazing, at highway speeds it is smooth as glass. Highly recommend to anyone.
