The Chevrolet Impala Blackout Concept grabbed plenty of attention when it was unveiled at the 2014 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. We’d heard whispers the Impala Blackout Concept may enter production, bringing its sleek-muted black tones with it, and it appears those whispers were truth.
Chevrolet has decided to keep us in the dark no longer, and announced the 2016 Impala Midnight Edition will be heading to production and it’s bringing all the updates we fell in love with.
“Since its introduction in 2014, Impala has become a benchmark for Chevrolet car design,” said Steve Majoros, Chevrolet director of car marketing. “The Midnight Edition further strengthens the Impala’s dramatic, head-turning styling.”
The 2016 Impala Midnight edition will arrive with gussied up bits to ensure it isn’t mistaken for any other road-going Impala. Those upgrades include a Jet Black exterior paint color, 19-inch machine-faced aluminum wheels with black accents, rear spoiler and black bowties are applied to the front and rear of the car.
Inside, things stay just as dark. A Jet Black interior has been selected to mimic the presence of the 2016 Impala Midnight Edition’s exterior, and aluminum sport pedals and a splash of sport to the already handsome Impala cockpit.
If you’re ready to plunk down a chance of change on the 2016 Impala Midnight Edition, it won’t break the bank either. The Midnight Edition may be applied to the 1LT, 2LT and LTZ trim levels of the Impala. Pricing for the Midnight Edition package start at $995, to $1,595 for the sleek new looks.
The 2016 Impala Midnight Edition stick with the tried and true 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, with the 3.6-liter V6 as an option. Chevrolet says a small number of Midnight Edition Impalas will be produced for the 2015 model year, but they will be outfitted with the four-banger only.
The 2016 Chevrolet Impala Midnight Edition will reach dealerships early this summer.
I don’t get the trend towards blacking out everything, but I would think that they would use the body colored grille that’s already available as an accessory for this.
When they offer a “Red Hot” edition with red hot exterior color, and black interior with red seat inserts I’ll be interested.
Special editions with paint, wheels, seat trims should be easy to do. I think that the plants were originally set up to run more colors than they are doing now and many of the other parts are sequenced at outside suppliers and then delivered to the assembly plant so it shouldn’t be a big deal.
I’m not sure about a Red Hot Impala…..but a Red Hot Camaro sounds interesting….
I wish they would do more special edition color packages across the board. They have done it to the Sonic with the Cool Blue, Deep Magenta (my wife owns that one), Dragon Green, Yellow etc. and to an extent with the Camaro in Synergy Green (same as Dragon Green?) and again with the Magenta.
The Camaro already does come in Red Hot, just without a package with matching seats. I own a previous gen. Impala in Victory Red, so I think the new one would look great in a similar hue. Red is my color, and I feel like I just can’t settle with any of the current exterior colors offered. I might be able to consider the Crystal Red if my parents didn’t already have one.
“and it’s bringing all the updates we fell in love with.”
Who is “WE”?
This is pathetic, and the only people scoring will be those who get an awesome discount deal off the dealership floor over markup prices.
These mods are so easy to do to an Impala, this is a joke.
If they really wanted to black things out, then all the chrome trim would be gone.
The new Impala is a benchmark product from Chevrolet that currently whomps Avalon, Taurus, 300, and any other car thar tries to fit in the “large family or business car. When Consumer Reports gives a nod to an American car, you know it’s got to be good–real good. I think any package that gives Chevy more talking points is a good thing, i just wonder why the SS edition can’t be produced, mqybe with a nice, stomping V8. I would think a nice small block powerplant would do nicely here, especially since the RWD SS hasn’t exactly been a sales barnstormer…..Chevy do your marketiing research, what would customers prefer, and actually purchase for their family, a roomy, near luxury FWD Impala, with perhaps a hint of torque steer, or a great handling RWD American car that comes out of the box a fine, foreign car fighter, but with all the detriments of rwd (winter handling, driveshaft intrusiveness, etc. My opinion is that a fwd Impala SS editionthat looks good and drives good would make a great alternative to the slow-selling Australian which I would guess GM is losing money on. SS–A great concept that just didn’t pan out– shades of SSR? Check out the business case,GM, America deserves an Impala SS, in any color it wants. This is just my opinion, the only person whose “seat- of -the -pants” opinion I would trust would be Bob Lutz or Bill Mitchell or Harley Earl.
SS in any color
