2000 Cadillac Northstar LMP Race Car Sells For Only $99,000

Most recently, the 2000 Cadillac Northstar LMP No. 19 race car became available to fill the role of a track toy (or museum ornament), and received a winning bid of $99,000 at the recent Barrett-Jackson auction. A relative bargain, all things considered. But there is a catch. And it’s not good for those hoping to impress other track-goers on a Sunday morning.

Similar to the 2004 Buick Rainier GNX we covered, the LMP was sold “on bill of sale only,” meaning it could not be driven on the road. Actually, this specific LMP can’t be driven at all as GM has removed all proprietary electronics. But unlike the previously mentioned Rainier GNX, we could stare at the LMP in awe for days, if not longer. Not to mention it has a twin turbocharged 4.0L V8 McLaren engine, and while the new owner may not be able to utilize the 575 horsepower motor it still translates into a ton of cool points.

If you were hoping to acquire 1 of the 3 LMPs that were built, there will be another gem available soon from the John Rosatti collection. That’s right, the No. 8 LMP race car will be up for grabs at the Palm Beach auction.

  1. This car is a roller display car at best.

Besides you can not even drive one of these cars on the street as they are not street legal let alone have enough ground clearance to make it into a parking lot with out tearing up the $5,000 Lip on the air dam up.

The best thing to do is build a North Star engine for this car and put it on the track for Vintage racing. Or to fire it up with open exhaust to scare the hell out of the neighbors once in a while.

    1. Effectively a sculpture. I would have liked to see GM put Cadillac further into LMP and other racing series.

      1. May be some day in the future and once they go back to Europe and have their own engines again.

As for now this is a series that is really good but too few Americans appreciate. The money spent right now would be much better used on the coming models for now. The ATS R will hold the racing ground well once they sort out the teething pains.
