Although the C7 Corvette Z06 is the new sheriff in town, let’s not forget when the C6 ZR1 came on scene and was latest supercar killer from General Motors. The blue devil’s 6.2-liter supercharged V8 was spitting out more horsepower than any Corvette had previously from the factory.
And it’s still good for a romp around the racecourse. Especially when handed over to the guys and gals at Lingenfelter Performance Engineering.
LPE has tuned the car for 750 hp, and handed it over for a past speed day at Monza last year. The best time clocked in the car was 5:31 with a passenger in the vehicle. Not bad. That’s also no pedestrian behind the wheel either, it’s Cesare Manfredini, ex-F3000 racer and SuperFormula European champion.
The ‘ol blue devil still sounds just as good as we remember, and is good for some fireworks as it rockets down the straight-aways in-between shifts. Everyone loves fireworks.
Check out the beast as it wreaks havoc around the track in Italy, and even though the C7 Z06 is the new kid on the block, maybe we’ll see ZR1 return in form of a mid-engine C8 Zora.
