Velocity Yellow May Be Retired For The C7 Corvette

Yellow is fairly hit or miss on cars, but the Corvette has always worn it well if you ask us. Previously, the C4 offered a Competition Yellow, followed up by Millennium Yellow which, you guessed it, was introduced in 2000 alongside the C5 Corvette.

Since the C6 Corvette, Velocity Yellow has been the offering for those looking for a bright and sunny paint hue on the car, but if a new report from Corvette Blogger is to be believed, its days may be numbered.

The site reports the color now only has a ten percent availability on orders for the Corvette, which has been seen before from GM as they begin winding down use of an exterior color a few months before it’s officially retired.

Previously the site also reported Kirk Bennion, Corvette exterior design manager, let it slip a new yellow hue was on the way, only to surprise everyone with Daytona Sunrise Metallic instead for the C7 Corvette, an orange hue.

Now, it seems Bennion pulled a fast one by throwing everyone off, and a new yellow may indeed be on the way. If it’s to be believed, better order now before the Velocity Yellow is one for the history books.

  1. I like the Velocity Yellow but I still think the Torch Red is the way to go with a Corvette Stingray. Even back in the days of the 60’s there was a song “Little Red Corvette” and I think that just about covers the color………………….in my opinion.
Anyone out there using a paint protection film for their Stingray? My mistake was not doing that from the get go and I got a
stone chip on the right fender just beyond the headlight. Talked with a guy who comes to your house and he takes care of this the best he can but he says only 99% good but I don’t think painting the fender for that would work as color match on the Torch Red can be tough sometimes especially with a year old car but he can’t come out for a month and my local body shop man thinks he can do the same. Once done I will get a film before heading into the deep south for a vacay in a few months. I’m told the best film to use is SolarGard Clearshield, cut by computer for a perfect fit, has a 5 year warranty and from what I’ve read it beats out the 3M products but it ain’t cheap. Anyone have any ideas or thoughts on this? Thanks!

  2. I liked the yellow colours for the Corvette, although I could never bring myself to pick one over a suitable red.

But car colours come and go over time. What works for one generation might look awful on another. Just look how popular brown was in the 70’s. Those kinds of colours aren’t coming back any time soon.
