“You owe me a ten-second car.” Famous words. And although ten-seconds is impressive, if you really want to grab a gearhead’s ears, get in the single digits.
And even though the C7 Corvette Z06 is a beast, it won’t crack nines alone. But with a few bolt-ons, it’s possible. And here we have it. To our knowledge, this is the first 2015 Corvette Z06 to find a nine on the strip with video evidence.
The Corvette readies itself, launches and proceeds to rocket down the strip where it checks in at the end of the quarter mile at 9.87-seconds at 138 mph. To reiterate, that’s only with basic bolt-ons. Impressive.
At first viewing, our ears picked up what sounded like 8-speed automatic blips. That isn’t the case, though. This was done old-school style, rowing gears like a champ all the way down. The shifts sound incredibly crisp, and we were shocked to see it was a 7-speed manual.
