The Holden Cruze Plays The Matchmaker Game: Video

We have to admit, this sounded a little strange upon first glance, but after having a look at the videos, it was a fun lighthearted way at getting the Holden Cruze some attention. In the latest PR stunt, the Holden Cruze plays cupid with a handful of couples, while the happenings are recorded on camera.

The premise is this: set up a blind date with two strangers, and see if the two hit it off while behind the wheel of the refreshed Holden Cruze. The date includes scavenger-hunt type activities and a stop for coffee, while both strangers have a turn behind the wheel to see how comfortable each feel with someone else driving.

Naturally, tensions can be high while driving with distractions and navigating roadways, and research conducted by Pure Profile show heated conversations about road directions cause most tension between couples on the road (29 per cent). The second most common cause of in-car arguments was frustration with their partner’s driving skills (18 per cent).

These types of things were considered while designing the blind date and integrated to show off the Holden Cruze’s many equipment features, including rear-park assist and the Cruze’s MyLink system for navigation.

The results of the dates were revealed at a Holden Cruze launch party in Sydney where the dates were critiqued by an expert panel of judges, including relationships expert and psychologist at the University of Western Sydney, Dr. Peter Jonason.

Dr. Jonason explains how you don’t know someone until you drive with them, citing situations like this where confined spaces and stress have people focusing on external factors, rather than on their passengers.

“Couples who were able to successfully complete the challenges without losing their cool have a much higher chance of succeeding in a long-term relationship,” added Dr. Jonason.

We’ve provided one of the date videos for you down below, and in this particular one, the two seem to have a genuine connection, though if you flip through the four other dates, at least one of them involves a near side-swipe of a Porsche 911. Have a look for yourself.
