Have A Look At How The Corvette Stingray Did On Top Gear

It’s no secret that the bulk of U.K. car journo’s have never been particularly impressed with American cars. The complaints always seemed to echo the same sentiment: American muscle cars, quick as they may be, can’t seem to find their way around a corner. And the boys at Top Gear are no exception.

Pitting the Audi R8 V10 against a Corvette ZR1, Jeremy Clarkson opined the ‘Vette was, “insanely vulgar”, too wide, and “a complete madman” in the corners. Of course, that was the C6.

The brash Brits finally got their hands on a C7  Stingray and they were quick to pit it against a roundly-praised corner-hugger: the brand new Porsche Cayman GTS. The guys were thoroughly impressed and even admitted that the sun had finally set on the fast-but-faulty Corvette era. Just like much of the world’s press has already concluded, they thought the C7 Stingray was a damn good steer.

If you haven’t seen episode 5 of the new TG season we won’t spoil it for you. However, we will show you some brilliant in-car footage of the Stig throwing the two cars around the Top Gear test track. And just for the record the Stingray clocked a 1:19.8, easily outgunning the 1:21.6 set by the 340hp Cayman GTS.

Take a closer look below. But if the videos aren’t working, check the link here:

  2. I dont know where jeramy drove a C6 around corners but i had no trouble on turns at the glen. My C6 cornered great without a wobble or a slip all day. Must be the brits do not know how to drive a fast beautyful super car. By the way, CORVETTE HAS NEVER BEEN A MUSCLE CAR. they cant even get that right. What a bunch of wannabees. Your show sucks swamp water.

  4. Jeremy was in love with the ZR1 here but it is true the ZR1 was very tricky to drive on the edge and that is were the C7 takes it to the edge and then some with no issues.

The folks who don’t under stand this have never taken each car to the absolute limits and held it there. That is what tells you what a car can do.

I can’t wait till they get the Z06 next season. the 1:19 will drop by a couple seconds.

  5. This Corvette is a serious step forward. And if GM is smart and GM will not go to sleep or dream about the next generation will be even better and even closer to the best. Porsche Cayman is a baby porche. Real corvette match the GTS 911 and 911. This is stock corvette as well.
