GM’s Opel To Expand Szentgotthárd, Hungary Engine Plant, Add 500 Workers

General Motors’ Germany-based subsidiary Opel has announced plans to expand its Szentgotthárd (aka St. Gotthard) engine plant in Western Hungary. The expansion entails adding 500 new workers to the plant’s current 1,400 employees in order to boost annual engine production to 500,000 units, an increase of 50 percent over 2014.
Announced by Opel’s Péter Szijjártó and Joachim Koschnicke, the plan also calls for creating a new training center that will ensure proper training of the plant’s staff. The center will will be capable of facilitating training for roughly 100 students and is scheduled to open this fall.
