General Motors has just announced the recipients of its “Supplier of the Year” award for 2014, which recognizes the contributions of the automaker’s very favorite global parts suppliers, who continually go “above and beyond GM’s requirements, designed to provide customers with the most innovative technologies and the industry’s best quality vehicles.”
This year’s “Supplier of the Year” list includes 78 companies, from Alpine Electronics, to FedEx, to LG Chem, which is General Motors’ partner in developing the batteries which power the 2016 Chevrolet Volt. Said GM Vice President of Global Purchasing and Supply Steve Kiefer: “These companies are the best-of-the-best suppliers, and deserving of special recognition for their outstanding contributions. We need them to continue to bring us their most innovative technologies, highest quality services and work, and we will continue to win together for the benefit of our customers.”
Perhaps not surprisingly, Delphi did not make the list.
Additionally, General Motors also provided four different companies with the “Overdrive Award,” whose services helped to drive strong business results for the automaker. Those companies are: Dell Inc., Johnson Controls Inc., Lear Corp., and The Maersk Group. Of these, Dell, Johnson Controls and Maersk were also recognized as “Suppliers of the Year.”

This should help with GM’s efforts to cement some notorious poor relations with suppliers , over the years . If this Supplier of the Year was Steve Kiefer’s idea , a big thank you is in order !! If it wasn’t Steve , let us know that person’s name ….perhaps it was Grace Leiblein , the brilliant engineer , who I think ran the south american division and was promoted to VP and in charge of the overhaul of the relationship between GM and parts suppliers( approx. end of May last year , thereabouts ).
Question , where does Leiblein hang her shingle now ??
How many suppliers didnt make it, i think is the question here.
