The 1980s were a fairly dark time for the automobile, especially at the earlier part of the decade. Underperforming engines and generous speed limiters plagued many of the hot metal from performance vehicles of the time period. There was also a fuel crisis.
So, what to do when there’s a fuel crisis? Downsize engines and turbocharge, of course! Except, in the process, Buick created one of its most lusted after vehicles to date for enthusiasts and collectors alike. That is no other than the 1987 Buick Regal GNX. And now one is yours for the taking, as a prime specimen has surfaced on eBay.
The seller describes the car like it just rolled off the assembly line, and he’s right. The car is painfully spotless, and nothing is out of place or damaged. This particular Regal GNX is number eight sold to the public, as the first examples were reserved for General Motors executives. Previous owners of the car include Reggie Jackson, retired baseball star, and a various Popeye’s CEO, according to the listing.
Nonetheless, the various owners have kept the car in pristine condition, and only 6,330 miles have been tallied to date. The 3.8-liter turbocharged V6 runs like new, and no drivability faults are present, and only regular service has been maintained on the vehicle.
So, if you’re still reading this, we command you to place a bid on this car at once. Currently, it sits at $61,000 with no bids. Hurry, before the price hits stratospheric heights. Check out the listing here.

Here is a car that many though would be off the charts. While it has done well there are too many in prime condition and have been stored because people were expecting to make a buck. Also todays cars are so much more powerful.
It is generally the cars no one saves and no one expects that end up making money later on not the ones people expect and save. Cobra’s, SuperBirds and even the Ferrari GTO were all cars many passed over years ago and today are in high demand.
Nick Mason only paid around $10K for his GTO because it was a used up old race car no one wanted. Now today?
This is the problem with many of the limited models in the 80’s No many are all that limited and not all that rare.
Now a stock GN with low miles is hard to find today unmolested. They got used up.
Check the title report provided on the eBay ad. This GNX had 45k miles in 2003. Seller has misrepresented claimed mileage of only 6k so most likely vehicle has 106k. Idiot!
i saw that on the auto check report as well, looks like the 45k might have been a typo, probably had 4,500 at the time, its not unusual for state inspectors to enter the wrong mileage its called human error, and believe me if this car had 106k it would definitely show, you just can’t hide 100,000 miles on these cars.
I had the base car, and have to admit it was the most shoddily constructed and engineered thing I ever owned (except for the engine, which refused to die), but I would still take the right GNX in a heartbeat. It’s one of the last truly special cars ever built.
For some reason, someone is parting ways with plans to revive the Grand National nameplate.
Thanks for the Write up much Appreciated hopefully the next owner will cherish it well .
