/DRIVE Nerds Out Over The 2015 Corvette Z06

In the latest episode of AFTER/DRIVE, Mike Spinelli sits down with Jalopnik‘s Travis Okulski, and Automobile and Time Inc.‘s Jason Harper to nitpick the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 relentlessly from head-to-toe, and attempt to answer some difficult semantical questions.

Perhaps most important of all the questions posed – whether the Z06 is “too much car” for the street – has the most nuanced response. As Okulski notes, the C7 Stingray is plenty fast enough; there are few sound reasons to add tens of thousands of dollars of aero, supercharger, and other bits when you can’t safely run the car at nine-tenths on public roads anyway.

And then, of course, the bigger question: why is there a Z06 convertible? The open roof of course compromises some of the car’s structural rigidity, so if it is (for now) the fastest, most hardcore Corvette, why bother catering to those who don’t demand the absolute utmost performance-wise?

We can’t offer satisfactory answers to these questions here, and besides; no two people are likely to feel quite the same. Watch the full video below to get an earful from Spinelli et al.

  1. I have seen two NEW Z06’s, a white coupe that was parked, and the other Z06 was a blacked out convertible on the highway. (sadly neither were equipped with the Z07 package) The guy in the black convertible Z06 was gunning it on the highway easily going 20-30 mph over the speed limit; but that 6.2 supercharged V8 roar gave me goose bumps when it went by my lowly 2009 Cobalt. That sound alone should end all discussion on why this supercar should be bought. Not to mention it is the best bargain on the market! 650/650 for under 100k? Bonkers.
