The Chevrolet Camaro Z/28.R will return to the site of its first ever victory this weekend as the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge heads to Sebring International Raceway for the second round of the 2015 season.
Steven Motorsports’ Robin Liddell and Andrew Davis head to Sebring this weekend as the reigning champs from 2014. The pairing also put the Z/28.R on the podium during the first round of this season at Daytona, finishing second ahead of teammates Matt Bell and Lawson Aschenbach.
New to the Camaro camp this year is Mantella Autosport, who purchased their two Z/28.Rs from CKS Autosport. The team’s No. 8 Camaro, driven by Mark Wilkins and Anthony Mantella, placed ninth at Daytona, with Martin Barkey and Kyle Marcelli finishing twelfth in the No. 80 car.
“The season started in fantastic fashion with a second- and third-place finish at Daytona for the Camaro Z/28.R,” said Chevrolet Program Manager for the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge, Lisa Talarico. “Sebring obviously was an important event for our program in 2014. The Camaro Z/28.R showed its strength there, and we have improved it even more since last season. There are so many wildcards at Sebring including track surface, temperature and grip. It will be important for our teams to be prepared to deal with each of those challenges.”
Chevy and the Z/28.R will be looking to win at Sebring for the second consecutive year when the track’s biggest racing weekend of the year rolls around this weekend. If Stevenson Motorsports can pull out a win, it’s possible they will surpass Matt and Hugh Plumb for the championship lead.
