Earlier this week, Chevy showed a teaser image for the upcoming all-new 2016 Malibu. The teaser shows the silhouette of the upcoming bread-and-butter midsize sedan as well as a few detailed elements of the front and rear ends, but doesn’t exactly go into any any detail. Image manipulation software to the rescue.

The original teaser released by Chevrolet
After adjusting the brightness and contrast levels of the teaser, we were able to see a few more details of the vehicle. For instance, we can now more clearly distinguish a distinct character line on the hood that flows right into the A-pillar; another character line starts right above the front headlight and emerges just aft of where we imagine the B-pillar would be, continuing to run all the way to the end of the tail lamp. We also see a definitive sloping roofline along with a fairly large greenhouse.
Marking the ninth generation of the Malibu nameplate, the all-new 2016 Malibu will premier at the the New York International Auto Show in the beginning of April. Check out more details about Chevy’s new midsize sedan here.

By popular request, here’s Chevrolet’s teaser promising to release 5 new cars in 2015. 2016 Cruze is front left, 2016 Malibu is front right with 2016 Camaro behind it

The overall impression with the flow through styling , looks stunning . With about 3 inches longer wheelbase , this should be a benchmark for this market segment . One question , though , as it will have a longer wheelbase and be no doubt heavier , will a V6 available , as is offered in the Camry ??
Its going to be 300 lbs lighter than the current malibu.
Yes longer and 300 pounds lighter with no V6. This is a new platform and a Whole new ball game.
This is the reason we had the last Malibu for a couple years as GM just had to stretch it out till the new platform was ready.
I have stated the present model was buying time and this is what they were working on.
I still fully expect the turbo engines will remain with the same or more HP. With 3200- 300 pounds it should be an interesting ride.
GM will do the same on the Cruze an Impala with no size loss and less weight.

Here is the link to a better real photo that did not post
The Bu is upfront and the new Cruze is to the left with a wider looking grill than China.
Thanks for the link, wow I’ve never seen that angle of the “5 in 15”, malibu looks nice should do just as good as the fusion now, similar profile , is it just me or does the nose of the camaro look a bit to high off the ground? I know it’s not production model but the rest of the car looks amazing
The Camaro is not really a good shot of how the nose will look so don’t worry,
Also note at the Cleveland show there were only two Camaro’s in the back of the display and they were a v6 Coupe and a Z/28 only. This is a good indication things are a go for NYC. Also I saw media has started its work too with interviews with engineers etc.
New Camaro and Bu both at NYC should make a big splash.
The Camaro will not be shown in New York. There will be a separate, much more special venue for that reveal.
For some time, Malibu has played the role of ugly step-sister to the the benchmarkable Insignia-an amazing vehicle great size size for Europe and other global markets yet slightly too small for US tastes.
The devil is always in the details, and in this case GM has been a bit lazy (read: cost.effective) when it comes to Malibu and in the process neglected the company’s most important market.
Operating both Opel and Chevy is illogical IF GM does not use this as an opportunity to create differentiable product. Otherwise, you become Ford with Fusion/Mondaro and loose the benefits of running two product programs.
I’ve got this sinking feeling that we are viewing a Chevy badged Chrysler 200.
No thanks!
Ive got this feeling that we are looking at a mini impala, clown.
This is an ideal model to become the second Chevy EREV sedan, after the Volt.
I am now starting to really believe the statement that was made about the new Malibu “will blow you away” made by the GM exec. who I believe was Mr. Reuss. This thing is stunning and I don’t mind the fastback slope of the rear end at all. Between that ,the 300# in weight savings etc. I think this will be just fine with a 4 cyl. in it. I say that because I own an ’11 with a four and it has plenty of get up and go for @90 something% of daily driving. I just hope they’ve learned their lesson and get the feature content trim level pricing thing right this go around. Way to go Chevy/GM !!. On an aside, I also hope the next Verano is as good as they seem to have done here. 🙂
The Chevy “family” split grille looks better in some applications and others…..let’s hope that many variants were sent to the clinics and the most appealing one chosen — rather than have someone internal to GM make the final choice. Even a so-so front end will not cut it in this segment.
they look lower and longer….not as bulky and dull as the older modals….I think this the right direction GM is going.
the 2016 Camaro looks lower and sharper I’m looking forward to seeing thinner pillars and better visability.
The Malibu will always be in last place unless they add a V6 to the powertrain as well as, make a panoramic roof an option or atleast vinyl black roof, and many other gadgets that other sedans in its class offers point blank.
