Earlier this year we told you about Michael Essa, who has ditched his BMW drift car in favor of a fifth-generation Camaro for the 2015 Formula D season. Essa won’t be the only one fielding a fifth-gen Camaro in the series this year, though, with Conrad Grunewald returning in a new Replay XD and Always Evolving-sponsored Camaro.
The Replay/XD/Always Evolving Camaro will be powered by a 7.0-liter LS7 V8 with nitrous, just as it was last year. The changes to the car will mostly consist of the new Always Evolving livery, pictured above, however the Conrad Grunewald Racing team will also be making the switch to GT Radial rubber for the 2015 season, which kicks off in Long Beach on April 11.
“I couldn’t be more excited about this Formula DRIFT season getting started,” Grunewald said. “We have been working tirelessly during the winter to put this program together and I can’t thank everyone enough. We have exciting new partners, a fresh look for the team and now it’s time for me to focus on Long Beach and the season ahead.”
In addition to their updated wheels for the 2015 season, the CGR team has also unveiled a project Camaro built in partnership with Chevrolet Performance and Scoggin Dickey Parts Center. The car , which will be powered by a 376 LSX crate motor with two turbochargers, will be on display at all seven Formula D legs and will be used for several media events and appearances.
You can catch Conrad and his new Camaro on the CBS Sports Network, which will be airing the Formula D events throughout the year. Event coverage will be shown across 20 half-hour programs, while a separate behind the scenes program, Formula D Insider, wil give us a look at the inner workings of the sport.
