2015 Cadillac Escalade Gets Tested By European Journalists

Will 2015 finally be the year Europeans enjoy American-made vehicles as much we enjoy cars and SUVs made in Europe?

Ex-Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson already found out the new Corvette Stingray was faster around track than a Porsche Cayman GTS. Clarkson further cemented the win by concluding that he would rather drive and own the new C7, too.

So, Chevrolet may have finally dispelled the myth that american sports cars can’t turn corners, but what about our brashly oversized yet highly desired SUVs? Can the epitome of America’s SUV fascination – the 2015 Cadillac Escalade – truly convince European journalists to abandon their X5s and Range Rovers?

At this point, it’s a little too early to tell: While we’ve had the new, fourth-generation vehicle on our roads for almost one year, GM Europe recently invited European journalists from ten countries to the vehicles’ official launch in Zurich, Switzerland from March 16-22.

While we don’t know exactly what they said– the video’s “music” takes care of that– we can only hope that one of the journalists didn’t smash a headlight on the test-drive.

Have a look at the festivities below (and feel free to crank your volume down):

  1. The last cadillac escalade is normal and cool. But it can certainly be even better. But a couple of things that immediately stand out are going to have a panoramic sunroof, and the shifting lever. Gear change lever is the worst thing ever. the cadillac people do not understand how it ruins the whole dashboard. see how it would be neat if you could.
This video is pretty good for what it is worth to take into account the future.

    1. I’d take a panoramic sunroof, but could care less about a console shifter. In practice it’s far better to use than a console shifter and when shuffling a big cruiser such as the Escalade around (like parallel parking or moving around in a 3 point turn) is far easier and quicker to throw around than console shift as your hand doesn’t move from the wheel.

Another thing…except in the states, no one uses that type of shifter anyway. It’s a uniquely American thing and the Escalade is as traditionally American as it gets.

      1. Edit: I meant ” far better to use a column shifter…”

        Google “Mercedes GL shifter”

And, yes, the Escalade’s column shifter needs to go. Gear selection can take up even less space than a column shifter when it’s a series of button on the dash close to the steering wheel.

  2. I can agree that GM should definitely drop the column shifter on all their large SUVs in the near future. GM should also try either a supercharge 6.2 or a 5.3 twin turbo for a V-series Escalade. That would be so cool, not to mention competitive.

I think that they should also, introduce at least a 4.2 V-8 diesel for their large SUVs and 1500 trucks, that would allow them to stifle their competitors a bit. Additionally, that future bound 10-speed should work well with these higher powered models.

  3. It’s like those 350lbs whales at Wal Mart. To Americans, that’s normal. Elsewhere, it isn’t.

    1. Motor Trend said the Escalade has the best interior in class, so I’m not sure what you’re complaining about.
