Watch A Porsche 914 With An LS6 Take Its First Breath: Video

For today’s “I hope I never get so bored with my vast stores of disposable income” story, we turn to a Porsche 914, into which a man has miraculously shoehorned a 5.7-liter LS6.

Mostly we’re just knocking on it because we’re jealous.

This rather absurd swap was brought to our attention by the folks at LSX TV, who write that the creator of this Franken-Porsche monster had the good sense to install the electric power steering from a 911, as well as that car’s suspension, and even mated the LS6 to a Porsche G50 5-speed transaxle. Cooling is provided by a horizontal radiator with twin electric fans, although why it’s not raked at an angle for better airflow is beyond us.

We were all sorts of concerned for the wee VW-Porsche 914’s integrity, until we saw the massive bracing that the owner has welded in place. Good news: he probably won’t twist the frame. This is probably one of the most exhausting-looking builds we’ve ever come across. We don’t know why this man decided to take it on, but we’re certainly happy he did.

The world is made brighter by its very existence.

  1. Aaron, you need to get out more. SBC swaps into 914’s are a common thing and have been going on since the 70’s. Renegade Hybrids in Las Vegas has built a very good and long-lived business doing it, as have Rod Simpson, Desert Hybrids and several others. And it’s not just Chevy V8’s, the 914 platform is also popular for LSx’s, turbo Subarus, RX rotaries, Porsche sixes, and inumerous other engine/transmissions. Not just once, not a few times, it’s a common thing. You’re sounding a lot like a rube, so get out more, get some fresh air, experience the whole sunshiny world.

  2. I think it’s good to see custom builds (other then hack jobs), this one looks like a pretty thorough job (so far) to me. Would like to see this car when it’s done Aaron!
