Mary Barra’s Backstory To Encompass New Book

New York City journalist Laura Colby has written a book about the CEO of General Motors, Mary Barra. The book is being published by Wilson & Sons, and is expected to be in book stores sometime next month. With a title of Road to Power, the book covers the backstory to Barra becoming the highest-ranked woman in the auto industry.

For starters, Barra grew up in a middle-class family in Waterford, she loved math and science and went on to become an electrical engineer. With hard work and dedication, she managed to make the most out of GM’s visionary goal of assisting more women into leadership positions within the company.

The book begins with a reference to Inforum, which is a highly influential women’s business forum. During Inforum’s 50th Anniversary event back in 2012, Carol Cain of the Detroit Free Press had interviewed Mary Barra. When asked about the possibility of a book Barra replied, “I don’t ever plan to write a book!” According to Cain, the book is “a must-read for those who want to understand more about Barra’s rise.”

We think the book will be a big success, considering what an inspiration Mary Barra is for other women in the auto industry. Are you curious in reading about Barra’s success? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
